this is fucking amazing! your dad is awesome for showing interest in your hobby, and you're awesome for engaging him, and catering to his interests! The looks like it has a lot of variety, and a good deal of potential finishers. Two thumbs up and a "Stay frosty!" from me :)

Thanks man! Glad you like it so far. It's still in a rough draft stage but Im starting to get a sense of where I wanna take it. I'm thinking Bane Alley Broker is going to be the core I base this around. Drawing tons of cards, having options, and cycling through the deck to pick up the win conditions.
I plan to have it done over the weekend so check back in !

Pretty cool deck! What about Spreading Seas? That will give them an island so all your ships and sharks can still attack if they are playing other colors than blue.

Treasure Cruise, or do you think Delve is too complex?
June 11, 2017 9:49 a.m.
I don't think delve is too complex, pretty straightforward. Added it to the maybe board!
June 11, 2017 10:03 a.m.
Okay, so I think you've got the right intention behind this, but you actually might not want to start your dad off on this deck. It does have some very pirate-themed stuff, but several card interactions you have are fairly complex in regards to how much bookkeeping you have to do once the card is there. All those different counters and zones to keep track of can from cards like Bane Alley Broker and Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer and then also Quest for Ula's Temple could be a little confusing to a completely new player, so you may want to build up to playing this deck.
Although I will admit I say this not knowing how much of the game your dad already understands, so if he's got the really basic stuff then he's probably fine. Kudos to you btw for also making the deck have synergy between the cards.
SHAME ON YOU!
You've left out the original pirate of mtg! The great Ramirez DePietro!
June 11, 2017 10:13 a.m.
Hahaha I looked at Ramirez several times and almost put him in. Now I feel like he's a must have! Ultimately though Thada Adel, Acquisitor beat him in utility.
As far as the difficulty, you're right there is a lot going on but I wanted the deck to be fun and interesting to play rather than a basic intro deck. He knows the general order of the game and honestly he will only be playing this with me and my brother so we can be there to walk him through any questions he might have at the start. I just ordered the deck and a few of the maybe cards so we will see how it all plays out.
Thanks for the kudos! I will cherish them.

this is awesome me and my buddy were trying to figure out how to put a pirate deck together. +1 for just putting this together amazing.
June 11, 2017 10:43 p.m.
Glad you like it! I mentioned in another post that I just ordered the main deck so when I test it out I'll report back on how it does.
Gonna be throwing more cards in the maybe board that could be decent and work with the theme.
Good luck out there !
June 11, 2017 11:13 p.m.
Just some initial thoughts - you might want to go up to 24 lands (even 25 if you run cycling lands), and add some removals to the deck. You could go Go for the Throat and/or Doom Blade for effiency, or Encrust to build on your theme.
June 12, 2017 10:35 a.m.
Yea I was thinking about adding some removal spells but wanted to see how the bribe mechanic from Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer worked out first. If they can't do anything they don't need to be removed! However gonna play some games and if it feels like I need it I'll toss in some copies of Murder
June 12, 2017 10:48 a.m.
Since you run white and arent on format restrictions, I suggest Swords to Plowshares instead of Murder. They are better than Path to Exile, but restricted to legacy and vintage normally. Truly appreaciate on you work on this for you paps and otherwise. Post your results and I migh take up on you list and make it mine. It's really interesting!
June 14, 2017 2:41 p.m.
Hey thanks for the +1 and suggestion! I agree that's a better choice for sure and still can fit in the theme. I might main deck that actually. I will post results when the deck gets here !
June 14, 2017 2:54 p.m.
ever considered Tibalt? if you can get his loyalty to 6, you can take everyones creatures for yourself and hit them with them. Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded
June 14, 2017 3:31 p.m.
Snakerush, look at that + ability. Planeswalkers are a bit more advanced of a concept in the first place, and for a new player, Tibalt would leave a bad taste for them. It's + ability is actively hurting yourself. I'd let him play without Planeswalkers first, then eventually introduce them with Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. It's fairly simple to understand compared to a lot of others, it's self-synergistic, it's not too far off-theme, the colors are already there, and it's not too budget-destroying.
June 15, 2017 10:57 a.m.
I agree with Penthoplayer on this one. While the ultimate is powerful and fits with the theme, getting there could potentially ruin a winning combo with ula's temple. It would suck to stack up those quest counters only to discard your kraken or Leviathan.
I left Planeswalkers out for the moment to break him in and see if he likes it. If he does we can make additions. I'm also curious to see if there are going to be any Pirate Planeswalkers or legendaries with the new block coming out in September. Looking forward to it!
June 15, 2017 12:51 p.m.
There should be a pirate Vraska in Ixalan. It's on the set art.
June 16, 2017 8:52 p.m.
when Ixalan is released...Admiral Beckett Brass would be great!
June 18, 2017 5:52 p.m.
Ah, tappedout hasn't added the spoliers yet. Look up the card, it's amazing
June 18, 2017 5:56 p.m.
Hell yeah!! I can't wait for the new block although I'll probably have to change out a lot...but more Pirates!!
