Deck Bent Over, Raised Up Posterior

Commander / EDH Control Mill UB (Dimir)

Skyfolk

Maybeboard

This is my Phenax Mill Commander deck, and my current favourite deck. I’ve always wanted to do mill in Commander and I believe this is a pretty good way to go about it. I can definitely hold my own with this deck, and milling isn’t the only option. I’ve won through combat with it as well. Originally the deck was filled with more huge creatures and more clone effects, but I decided to change it up to make it better in general instead of just gimmicky.

Phenax&Elixir

The deck’s themes revolve heavily around Phenax, with the addition of some classic zombie goodness to either combo with Phenax or just to get a good board presence. The biggest challenge to milling in Commander is essentially the Eldrazi Titans.

Kozilek

I believe I have enough ways to remove them that I don’t be having too much trouble in that regard. Another way this deck struggles is against Wheel of Sun and Moon, which I currently have no answer for.

Eater&Alchemist

The biggest draw to playing a deck like this is the uniqueness of it. Not only is it a mill deck in a format where mill is discouraged, it’s a well-performing one with cards that may catch some people off guard. For example; most people aren’t even aware of Eater of the Dead, let alone the combo it has with Phenax. Same goes for Undead Alchemist, people don’t usually think about those interactions unless they’re building a Phenax deck themselves.

Queen&Geth&SadSac

The deck has a good balance of graveyard interaction and graveyard hate, which when combined with the strong milling themes can be devastating even for those who may be prepared. Although it may be slow going to remove problem cards in response to them being triggered or activated, you have the option to take it a step further and preemptively remove threats from the deck, either by searching them out or by chance exiling.

This deck also has no shortage of solid mill without needing to rely on Phenax himself.

Mill1

Smashing face with Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker, or Nemesis of Reason can quickly deplete and opponent’s deck should any of them go unanswered.

Mill2

Alternatively you can go for the gold and just Traumatize an opponent before slamming a Keening Stone into their face.

Mill3

You could even take a more grind-y approach with Sewer Nemesis and other such cards. All in all, you have a lot of versatility with how you want to mill out players.

Removal

Utility and removal are always important to me when I build any deck. This deck’s removal isn’t as strong as some others, but it gets by with great value cards like Grip of Desolation, Cyclonic Rift and Black Sun's Zenith. The addition of a couple clones adds more of a slow control-y element that can also greatly benefit your milling strategy and give you blockers.

Zombies

The final little quirk I really like about this deck is the mild zombie subtheme. The vorthos in me loves the flavour of it (even though they’re mostly Innistrad zombies), and the melvin in me loves the interaction between zombie tokens and Phenax’s ability. It’s a fun and interesting way to use the Commander effectively.

To conclude, I would recommend this deck for the player who’s bored with conventional commander decks, who wants to try something different. I’ve had a blast testing it out and evolving over this past year, and I hope someone else gives it a shot, and puts their own personal spin on it too. And if you like this deck, give it an upvote!

And as a bonus, here's something important I'm going to include.

- Cards over $15 are a huge no in general, and even then, $15 can be a lot. - No combos where the individual pieces are dead/bad cards. I like for my deck to work. - Don't suggest cards you've seen me cut in my updates. Please, it's really annoying when people do that. - Don't suggest cards that are in my maybeboard, that's why they're there. Unless you feel you can put up a really good argument as to why they should be in my deck.
