Persistent Bantitioners - Primer

Commander / EDH Combo GWU (Bant) Mill Primer

Cryonicity

Decided to try Bant to get access to GX advisors and G untaps effects. Let's see how this goes!

Apparently it works really well. After playing the deck for a few months, it stands the test of time as one of my favorite decks. There is no real combo that auto wins the game. There is however a lot of synergy.

HELLO AND WELCOME! This is my first ever primer on a deck. I love this very much.

PRIMER Named after: Persistent Petitioners

You won't like this deck if you: -like winning by infinite combo -like control/counterspells -have a lot of graveyard decks in your meta

You will like this deck if you: -like untap shenanigans -want to run a more than one copy of the same card -you want a powerful deck that looks unassuming

Why use Bant? First off, Bant is decided before I found the right commander. I wanted access to powerful cards that were well know Advisors like GAAIV and Gaddock Teeg. They are in bant themselves. Bant gives us access to untap effects like Seedborn Muse and Dramatic Reversal. There is a lot of new white untap effects like Join Shields.

Derevi vs Roon Roon is strong but he requires a lot of upfront help and mana to activate. Roon gives us the colors but we get back what we exile at the end of the turn. Derevi is superior in my opinion but you can use Roon if you desire it will just be weaker slightly. Derevi we rarely cast unless we have an odd number of petitioners. The fact we can cast derevi and avoid the commander tax at instant speed is amazing. If we have 7 advisors then we are one off from doubling down on the mill 12. Derevi allows us to untap an advisor right away to get a new set of 4.

Why add green and not use Brago? Brago can't get seedborn muse but we still get both.

Are we weak to boardwipes? Sorta, we don't mind them as much as we have a lot of "protection." We run Angel of Glory's Rise which hits our humans in our graveyard. How many humans are we using most of our creatures are human actually. All of our persistent petitioners are human, GAAIV, SEEDBORN MUSE, and EVEN our Lavinia's are too.

How to play the deck: Overall to play the deck you want to be very instant speed. You want to use your advisors to tap mill 12 at instant speed because you can still block with them and activate it in the blockers step before combat damage after you have declared blockers.

Mulligans are something very easy to do. As long as we have 2 mana sources and one is blue then we are all set! I am okay keeping most hands because the synergy is uncanny and we only need 2 petitioners in our opening hand. We will always draw more. Ideally you get 3-4 petitioners. I started the deck with 30 and cut it to 28 to fit more juice in. The count is still very consistent and I wouldn't go any lower because then you are losing the consistent opening hand stats.

Notable Cards in the deck: -Rest in Peace: stops the shuffle yards into library bit we would hate. -Isochron Scepter and Dramatic Reversal for more untaps -Intruder Alarm works better than paradox engine but you could run both

Cards to consider -Windfall -Narset, Parter of Veils -Paradox Engine

Recent Cuts -Lumbering Giant: works really well when it works.. it is horrible to cast it and then have it never die.
