Tribal Elves was my very first brew when I started playing mtg back in the Lorwyn days. It evolved towards a +1/+1 counters deck (Hardened Scales didn't existed) built around cards such as Bramblewood Paragon, Immaculate Magistrate, Joraga Warcaller, big threats such as Elvish Promenade and Jagged-Scar Archers, and then Elvish Archdruid to cast Vigor, Primordial Hydra... the goal of the deck was to spent my first turns assembling my swarm and going absurdly big, and then winning with a single swing, assuring damage passing through with Lure or Nath's Elite. The truth is that the deck became almost unbeatable (note that I played at a lower competitive level; free tournaments for under-15, or people testing/learning), but since I left Plato's Cave of mtg I had to assume that the deck wasn't actually competitive for modern standards, so I decided to upgrade it into BG Elves.
