I really dislike Mana Confluence in this deck. I don't see why you couldn't trade them out for Dragonskull Summit. I think Graven Cairns would work better in a 3 color deck and is a bit less relevent here. For example, where you might be running Jund and have 2x Stomping Ground and a Cairns on the field but a Lili in hand. The Cairns allows you to fix a Stomping Ground to produce BB for the Lili. In a two color deck I feel like it's significantly less useful. I'd recommend dropping both Cairns, 1x Urborg (because it's Legendary and more than one on the field won't work), and a Blightning and adding 4x Bloodstained Mire so that you can dig out your Blood Crypts to just guarantee you get access to both colors quicker.

That said, the curve is still a little on the high end after that, and I get that Heartless Summoning is an out for that in this scenario, but I think you should probably have more outs to go through your deck a little quicker to help minimize slow starts. I think you have too much discard control and not enough drawing power. This may lead to awkward games where you'll have Flings and discard spells, or multiple Heartless Summonings but not much you can actually do. I can't think of any decent draw spells for this deck though without inflicting more self damage, so instead maybe we just try to make the draws you do have more effective. We can do this by dropping 2x Thoughtseize for Expedition Map. You can then use the Map to grab Miren, Urborg, or grab a Bloodstained Mire I mentioned previously which you could then crack to help really thin out the lands from your deck, making your draws more powerful in general and helping to minimize your own self damage. Since this helps with your land drops it'd also benefit Beseech the Queen.

Nextly, I don't really like the idea of 3x Fling. It seems like if you were light on creatures it'd potentially be an awful draw. Maybe try 2x Rite of Consumption to help offset your self inflicted damage, and just add your 4x Lightning Bolt.

How do you ever get Myr Superion out if you have no creature mana???

FAMOUSWATERMELON - A Heartless Summoning would allow him to cast it for free.

Dope Heartless Summoning build! +1 for using Percy!

I guess I already +1'd this. I'd do it again if I could.

To be honest, this doesn't look competitive.

You only run 12 creatures, but use four copies of Heartless Summoning... I recommend to drop at least one copy of it or run more creautres.

Grave Titan gets a bit weaker with Heartless Summoning out. Don't forget that the tokens also will get -1/-1, and 1/1 tokens is just not as scary as 2/2 zombies. So maybe a Inferno Titan?

Expedition Map? why?

Please remember, this is just a recommendation and my thoughts about your deck. Don't take it personal, my goal is not to offend you :-)

If you plan to fling off abyssal persecutor, why are there no Flings?

turricanfan whoops! Forgot to update the description to say Rite of Consumption instead of Fling. Thanks!

Have you considered Tuktuk the Explorer?

It's not a great card, but I could see Generator Servant being OP AF in this deck. turn 2 gen. turn 3 myr or persecutor or underworld cerberus, OR turn 4 grave titan or inferno titan. and they would have haste. Just something i'd do to speed it up.

After posting I realized that the enchantment minuses 2 as-well and it would insta kill servant so I guess he could still be used, but only early game

I like that you can use Liliana to sacrifice Abyssal Persecutor if you need to.

I'd like to suggest Terminate. It's arguably one of the best 2 CMC destroying removal spells you have available over Dreadbore. Sure plainswalker removal is nice, but so is instant speed, non-regen removal.

@larsenp I see your point. I'll go ahead and make that change. Thanks!!

How does this deck fare WITHOUT Heartless Summoning? Seems a little slow without it, and as already stated Myr Superion is a dead card without a Heartless Summoning.

I really like this deck, +1 (Abyssal Persecutor my favorite black card), but I think it can be improved to be really competitive. A more midrange-y approach that doesn't rely too heavily on any one card to win the game.

I think Kolaghan's Command would serve your needs better than Blightning. Also, what about Demonlord of Ashmouth for another sac outlet that benefits from Heartless Summoning?

September 16, 2015 1:33 p.m.

Pranker0 says... #18

Hmmmm... The command is definitely going in. I'll have to playtest the Demonlord before I make that call. What would you suggest I drop for him?

September 17, 2015 5:29 p.m.

Probably some Inferno Titan. His trigger is nice, but I don't think you need a playset, especially if you end up without a Heartless Summoning.

September 18, 2015 7:17 a.m.

I would keep in Grave Titan if you end up going with Demonlord, because if you don't have Percy out, then you can at least sac some 1/1 Zombies away.

Have you considered AEther Vial? Picture this, turn 1 AEther Vial, Turn 2 Heartless Summoning AND Myr Superion cause he costs 0 AND you summon Tuktuk the Explorer with the vial and then turn 3 an Abyssal Persecutor with the Vial and a Malignus with your mana.

Telerik says... #22

Emdimian This doesn't work the way you describe it. Heartless Summoning doesn't affect a card's converted mana cost, it only reduces the costs you have to pay for it.

Explanation: If you cast Tuktuk the Explorer while Heartless Summoning is in play, he costs to cast, but his converted mana cost remain the same.

See the difference: Converted mana cost is always what's printed on the card (except for X, but let's talk about that another time) and the cost you have to pay can vary.

I think the sideboard could be more meta-tuned. You should consider adding Crumble to Dust.

On the topic of land destruction, your deck functions very well as big aggro even with a smaller # of lands. Boom/Bust could work (but I'm biased towards it). I think Dreadbore is a pretty good 1-of sideboard against tron, maybe replace a single terminate. I don't know how big a problem tokens and Lingering Souls are for you, but Illness in the Ranks is a hose. Finally, I think you really need more hate against burn. You deal a lot of damage to yourself. In my heartless deck I run Wurmcoil Engine.
