I find that the appeal to this format is that there aren't any cards on the banlist...yet. Are there any notable cards on the watchlist right now? And what is the guiding principal for the banlist?

@Enral: We are trying to be as hands-off as possible with the ban list in this format. The cards that would be on our radar would be the same as most other formats: cards that warp deck construction, reduce deck/play variation to a singularity, and that are so oppressive that they drive players to stop playing. Cards that are on our radar/requested to be looked at by the community include Peregrine Drake , Rhystic Study , and Pestilence . Personally I don't think any of these cards are overly oppressive and while most Blue decks will run Study and most Black decks will run Pest decks are not built around them and the chances of seeing them in any given game is slim. Drake is ubiquitous with combo in PDH but can be stopped with common removal and grave hate and frankly running Drake in a deck not dedicated to the combo just makes your deck less consistent.

Yeah and Whispersilk Cloak . Hexproof/shroud is very powerful in commander, as is unlockable, so it slots into basically every Voltron and Stompy deck. Most people are probably not running Artifact removal (aside from a couple equipments and Mana rocks there isn't much worth targeting) so your only real chance to stop it is killing their commander before they equip. Wizards is getting better at printing useful modal removal at common ( Caustic Caterpillar , Return to Nature , Wickerbough Elder ) but it is all Green and running straight Artifact hate has bad returns in PDH so we'll see what the future has in store.

The future of PDH is so promising. I really like the pused uncommon legendary creatures we keep getting too. Mardu could really use some help in that department

Imperious Perfect - first print uncommon, so it is legal as a mono-green pauper commander right?

Imperious Perfect has 5 different printings at uncommon so yes it can be your cmdr

So pdh does not follow pauper's banlist? like is Arcum's Astrolabe legal in pdh?

Ruffigan says... #11

@bruhdy: Pauper EDH does not follow the Pauper banlist and currently has no banned cards.

Also, are there any colorless pdh commanders? Wondering for Cogwork Assembler and just messing around with it.

Also Ruffigan thank you. I was wondering if that has changed. I am following the PauperEDH Reddit page but couldnt find any updates on the banlist question.

You're welcome. I have had good success with Sandstone Oracle and seen good lists for Lesser Masticore, Burnished Hart, and Sorcerer's Broom. I haven't tried the latter three but the Oracle is surprisingly strong, you just ramp hardcore to get the Oracle out and refill your hand and try to kill it in combat to do it again.

Great to see someone taking this format so seriously, its practically unheard of where I am (East UK) I gather you play this as a multiplayer format? Dont you find the games drag on a bit long, that's why I mainly play it 1v1, well that, and there's only one other person who plays atm xD

Ruffigan says... #15

We do mostly play multiplayer. When the decks are tuned I think games last 30-45 minutes which is shorter than a lot of commander games. They can drag on if people are playing commanders that don't do much, or if they're not running ways to get damage through.

What are the rules about downshifted creatures? If an uncommon creature is later printed at common, does it become an illegal commander?

April 27, 2020 8:38 a.m.

Ruffigan says... #18

@marlonmikami: No, if a creature has ever been printed at Uncommon it is a legal commander. Same for cards that have been printed at common and then Uncommon, they are still legal to use in your 99.

Reach229 says... #19

Wait are you saying you don't allow commons as commanders? I have a Thornscape Apprentice who would be very disappointed - especially as there are no good Naya alternatives for the deck :P

Also how do you feel about Planeswalkers? We did some fairly extensive testing for 1v1 and found even the best ones were no better than an uncommon creature. But I guess its a different dynamic in multiplayer? ^^

Podkomorka says... #20

@Reach229 Unfortunately only creatures that have been Uncommon at one point can be your legal commander. But don't be upset with what you've made, I don't think anyone would have an issue with you playing your deck if you ask!

Walker are in the same boat, ask first and it will most likely be ok until the walker is winning every game with the group haha. There are maybe one or two pretty good commanders out of the walkers but the majority are as strong as your average commander if not worse.
