Sideboard

Inspired by Caleb Gannon on the deck "Fishelbrand"

There are a few issues involved with the storm archetype in the pauper format.

So what even works as a storm deck in pauper?

I give you Weather the Storm ...but lifegain on its own doesn't win you a game. To weaponize it, we need in this deck Immolating Souleater and Fling Sure, you could just play Epicure of Blood to turn your Weather the Storm Copies into Grapeshots, but I feel like this provides too much of a window to fail to instant speed creature removal.

The Card Draw Engine

What Makes this storm deck special is the card draw engine. It relies on big delve creatures like Gurmag Angler and Shambling Attendants to be cast for just and be followed up by Rush of Knowledge Drawing you 7 or 8 cards.

Normal storm decks rely on flashing back its whole graveyard so it can easily use 1 mana cantrips to get there. So it can get away with just running instants and Sorceries.

Rush of Knowledge gives the pauper storm deck inevitability in finding a critical threshold of rituals and card draw to burn through the whole deck. While there is no guarantee it will draw into the right cards, this card advantage engine allows this storm deck to fail in the best circumstances by deploying a ton of large bodies on the board and attempt to win the game on a fair axis.

Differences From Source Deck

There are some slight differences between this deck and Caleb Gannon's Storm deck

  • My Primary win condition relys on a lethal fling which sidesteps the reliance on developing a signifigant boardstate. It includes Burnt Offering to convert a spare delve creature into the right amount of black and red mana. I don't initially plan to attack with them because I should win outright on the storm turn. So that is favorable over Energy Tap which just makes colorless mana

  • My sideboard is transformational. It can be changed to follow Caleb Gannon's original delve aggro plan with a full playset of Gurmag Anglers and Goblin Bushwhacker. It can also be fully changed into BR Reanimator to pull out an early Ulamog's Crusher
