Modern* BGW (Abzan, Junk) Budget GWUB Ramp

GoblinElectromancer

Sideboard

Creature (1)

The goal of this deck is to cast Gyruda, Doom of Depths on turn five or if your lucky turn four. Always having access to it on your sideboard is great. If that one gets countered or destroyed this deck has three more. There is a ton of ramp effects in this deck and it only cost $40!
Sakura-Tribe Elder: This is basically another Rampant Growth to have in the deck. It helps with ramp and you can use it as a chump blocker. Most modern decks don't play Essence Scatter so it's usually strictly better than Rampant Growth.

Restoration Angel: This card rocks. If you mill it from Gyruda, Doom of Depths you can play it, exile Gyruda, Doom of Depths and then return it to the battlefield allowing it to reuse its ability. Basically if you mill it from Gyruda it's a free 3/4 flyer otherwise you can play it as a flash blocker or to exile Gyruda after you have already play it to use its etb effect.

Wispweaver Angel: Like Restoration Angel milling this gives you a free creature because you can reuse Gyruda, Doom of Depths's enter the battlefield effect. Originally Felidar Guardian was in the deck but this replaced it.

Gyruda, Doom of Depths: There are three copies of Gyruda, Doom of Depths in main deck so that if your first one gets countered you can hopefully play another. Also if you mill one and nothing else useful you can play that and immediately sacrifice it so that you can use its effect again.

Ashen Rider: This is one of the few removal cards in the deck. It has both a great enter the battlefield effect and a dying effect. White is splashed in this deck just so you can cast it. In addition to removing your opponents threats it has a 5/5 body and it has flying. Probably the preferred card to mill. For budget Gyruda decks this is one of the best creatures because we don't have access to Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, or Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger.

Terastodon: Like Ashen Rider this also acts as removal. You can use it to destroy your own land and get 3 3/3's or kill your opponents planeswalkers. It's a 9/9 with no downside and it's only $1.29 so it's easily a 4 of.

Explore: This is a draw spell that allows you to play an additional land. Probably not as good as Rampant Growth but still decent.

Into the North: These are just four more copies of Rampant Growth. Competitive non-budget Gyruda decks won't play 8 Rampant Growth but in a budget deck that many works fine.

Rampant Growth: The best get an extra land spell for two mana in the deck besides Sakura-Tribe Elder.

Pentad Prism: If you play this on turn two and play no ramp spells you will still be able to get six mana turn 4 assuming you got a land every turn. You can only use the mana once so after that it's best to sacrifice it to card:terstodon for a 3/3.
There are a lot of cool things in this deck such as:

  • You always have access to the card you are trying to ramp into.
  • You can safely mulligan down to five and still easily get out a turn four Gyruda
  • It's very hard to interact with and stop you from casting Gyruda.
  • This deck can ramp really fast and have 8 mana on turn four.
  • You can always tutor the lands you need.
  • This deck is currently priced around $40.

You might not like the deck if:

  • You like fast aggro decks that win on turn 3 or 4.
  • You like having ways to interact with your opponent early game.
  • You like having a guaranteed win after you cast your win condition.
  • You hate companions.
  • You like buying the most ridiculously expensive decks possible.

Updates Add

This deck is now much weaker because of the new rule for companions: Rather than cast them once each game from the sideboard you can now instead pay and put your companion from your sideboard into your hand. This will make the deck one turn slower and no longer competitive.
