My build of The Gitrog Monster

So several years after I first built this deck, it is still together, and I still love it! I am steadily working toward making it my only foiled out deck (where budget allows) and in some dream world where I could afford a Bayou this is the deck I would throw it in!

PLease feel free to comment on the composition of the deck, and I would gladly accept any suggestions on how the deck can be improved.

I had the chance to play my Froglord deck for the first time in ages in a pod of 4, and it showed me that the deck is definitely in need of work. I looked at quite a few of the cards and realised they aren't as effective as I previously thought, or hoped. So with that in mind, I wanted to make a few changes, and this is the first set of them.

Cards taken out:

*Gravecrawler - It really didnt do what i wanted it to. It isn't useful as a blocker and obviously is a poor attacker. I think I wanted it as a recurring sacrifice, but it just didnt work out that way so off it goes.

  • Restore - I never needed a single use return from the graveyard, as I have other ways to do this that are repeatable. Fine card, but I don't feel I need it in this deck.

  • Blighted Fen - Too easy for opponents to play around, and too expensive, even if I can easily recur it.

  • Vampire Nighthawk - This is a bit of a pet card for me, but I just don't need it. Lifelink is nice but has too little impact overall, and although it's a flyer that didn't feel relevant enough. If I find that I am struggling to play against flyers i might put it back, but I doubt it.

*Manabond - This is an odd one. Putting lands into play is great but I have lots of ways to do that. I don't want to discard other cards, so this feels like it should be more at home in some kind of Madness deck.

Cards to go in:

  • Rampaging Baloths - Really not sure why this wasn't in here before! Lots of big tokens, that will work beautifully as sacrificial lambs too.

  • Druid Class - Cheap, difficult to remove, and has effects I want. Even level 3 might be usful in a pinch.

  • Roiling Regrowth - This seems a much more impactful one time effect, especially with my commander out.

  • Throne of the High City - I love the Monarch as an effect in multiplayer Magic. it encourages more interaction and if I am the Monarch, it feels so good! Plus, it being a land means I can get my crown back easily.

  • Krosan Grip - More removal is a good thing, and I wanted more ways to get rid of awkward artifacts and enchantments so in it went!
