Orzhovian Exiling partners

Commander / EDH

Hello everyone,

so about this deck... I have been playing Mtg for the last 4 years, and EDH for about 3 years. In the beginning I was all about agressive decks, but whilst playing EDH I started appreciating graveborn controlish decks. At that time, graveborn decks were rather popular in my play group and there were many Karador, Jarad and Meren decks. I wanted a similar deck, but not a duplicate of an already existing deck. As the best reanimator cards are in black, and white being my favourite colour, i was trying to make an orzhov graveyard deck. But only when the partners Tymna & Ravos were released, it got along. While Tymna secures early game carddraw, Ravos recurs creatures to my hand again late game. Both having their usefulness, i must admit that Tymna is the most important commander of the 2.

So the main theme for my deck is simple: exiling permanents from opponents. Why? I play a graveyard deck myself so i know how funky people can go with graveyards. Therefor i want their stuff to be gone forever. How? Mainly using creatures. Orzhov is very strong in creature recursion so i play a lot of creatures with ETB/die effects. Off course there are some crazy instants and sorceries that cannot be excluded from the deck (like living death, merciless eviction, etc...) but the main focus is on creatures since i can recur them and instants/sorceries are very hard. I mainly achieve this by abusing Xiahou Dun for black cards and mistveil plains for white cards, but it's very cluncky to achieve. Exile you say? Yes, i play the most important and usefull creatures with exile effects (even Kalitas and puppeteer clique have an exile effect) but there are not that many of them. Also, i almost cannot win on solely exiling permanents so therefor i also play creatures like kokusho, gray merchant, etc... to have a win con in the end. Win con? So this brings me to the win con for this deck. What i really wanted to avoid is winning on cards like torment of hailfire, exsanguinate, debt to the debtless etc... because they are just simple mana sinks and they have nothing to do with creatures. Mainly i win on combat damage or multiple recursions of kokusho. There is also a 4-card-combo in the deck (karmic guide - reveillard - any continuous sac outlet - gray merchant/gonti) which can win me the game, allthough this is a last resort for me and i only tutor for these cards when there is no other way out. Extra: many cards in the deck have been chosen on their abilities, but also mana cost (sun-titanable) and power (reveillarkable) has been taken into account.

Further adjustments: - So with the new set (guilds of ravnica) the card plaguecrafter came out. It's an autoinclude for the deck. I'll probably swap out merciless executioner for it, but i'm still waiting to physically have the card. - I have many good utility lands in the deck and in most games 1 or more of them get destroyed or get milled. I tried to solve the matter with petrified field, but since it only recurs the land to my hand and not to the battlefield it's just to slow. I'm thinking about incorporating crucible of worlds instead. if i do so, i'll probably include 2 more fetch lands (fetid heath & bloodstained mire) and maybe 1 or 2 more basics, but i still have to figure out what will be thrown out. - Allthough i have boseiju, it's not always enough to do whatever i want in my turn. Too much interaction is happening and therefor i'm looking to incorporate grand abolisher. haven't figured out yet what to throw out yet, but i'll find some room for it i'm sure.

So if you guys have any remarks or questions, feel free to post them here and i'll gladly answer.

P.S. As some of you might notify that a lot of the cards are from the original sets & foil. This is the only pimp deck where i tried to achieve this. I have all the cards like they are presented in the list, so apart from a deck to play with it's also a part of my collection. I really don't like FTV foils so i prefer the non-foil original cards if they only have a FTV foil and no other foil. Further aesthetic adjustments are going to be to buy the urborg, tomb of yawgmoth (Planar chaos instead of M15), buying the Godless shrine (Guildpact instead of gatecrash) and getting a black bordered strip mine from antiquities instead of a white bordered version from 4th ed.
