This is my pestilence deck, which I have revised again and again. I had a lot of success among friends, but not on a competitive level. Of course I would be happy about suggestions for improvement!

The main card is Pestilence. It can be activated at any time and destroys the enemy's creatures. To prevent Pestilence from destroying itself, it needs creatures that do not die from its effect. The perfect card for this purpose is Darksteel Mutation. It not only makes an enemy creature unusable, but also lets them stay on the battlefield when Pestilence gets activated. This deck runs no creatures, but many cards that disable the opponent's creatures. There are: Vampiric Link, Ensnaring Bridge, Darksteel Mutation and Hobble.

Pariah makes sure that you don't die from Pestilence yourself. The best way to enchant is an enemy creature which is already enchanted with Darksteel Mutation. Other cards that prevent you from dying or heal you are The Wanderer, Maze of Ith, Vampiric Link and Equal Treatment. The best way to win the game is to use Pestilence in combination with Equal Treatment.

To protect the key pieces, Karmic Justice (in the sideboard) is very well suited, because it draws the removals on itself and let's you destroy a permanent of the opponent. If some important enchantments are destroyed anyway, you can bring them back from the graveyard directly to the battlefield with Replenish. Furthermore, Hall of Heliod's Generosity can help to bring back important enchantments to our hand (library).

Forbidden Orchard is the perfect land for this deck. It can produce any mana and if there are no creatures left in the game (and Pestilence would be destroyed because of that) you can use Forbidden Orchard to bring a creature into the battlefield immediately. The spirit token can be destroyed again by activating Pestilence once.

If you're playing against more than one opponent, I recommend Sun Droplet because this artifact gives you one life between each player's turn. I also recommend Last Laugh because this enchantment activates itself more often with more players and can lead to big chain reactions. It's more of a fun card.

If you want to use cards that have been banned as well, I can highly recommend a Playset of Balance.

Last but not least I would like to thank DeathKyd. Through his Perfect Pestilence Deck I discovered my fascination for Pestilence. It has become one of my favourite cards in MTG.
