MARDU WARRIORS

"I give no explanation,

I was branded by the will.

Bringer of Death and Destruction

To all that I now kill.

Bravery calls my name,

In the sound of the wind in the night...

My sword will drink blood,

And I will fight, in the Dawn of Battle."

- Dawn of Battle, Manowar

This deck is pretty straightforward, the creature base is mostly Human Warriors and the idea is to be fast, but resiliant. I really like the aesthetic of Warriors! The idea is to swing early and often, with a small suite of burns and removal to clear a path, and some nifty recursion to recall those who have passed on to Warrior's Rest. Not a ton of tricks here, just straight up beats that keep coming back for more.

General - Alesha, Who Smiles to Death is our general, and she's a great one for this theme. She's a Warrior, so she gets bigger easily, and her ability to recur half our dudes is no small thing. Bringing back Arashin Foremost and the Rager time and time again is great! Targets: Arashin Foremost / Blood-Chin Rager / Bloodsoaked Champion / Figure of Destiny / Goblin Rabblemaster / Kargan Dragonlord / Mardu Shadowspear / Mardu Woe-Reaper / Seeker of the Way / War-Name Aspirant

Warrior / Human interactions - A few cards provide Warriors with a nice bonus - Chief of the Edge is a cornerstone card, giving all our warriors +1/+0... and all of our creatures are Warriors (except Athreos, God of Passage), so that rules. Arashin Foremost gives some lucky Warrior double strike and she has it herself, and Blood-Chin Rager's ability to either bypass or eat blockers makes him a cornerstone creature indeed, especially since Athreos makes the opponent lose 3 life to bury him (and they definitely don't want him or Arashin Foremost around), and Alesha can just recur him anyway. Mardu Woe-Reaper helps thin out graveyards and is especially nice in the mirror match. Kessig Malcontents can cause a really big swing, too bad he's not a valid target for Alesha!

Recursion - In addition to our general's ability, we have some other recursion going on. Of course Bloodsoaked Champion can recur himself, which is great for when Alesha's not on the board. Athreos, God of Passage makes for some great pseudo-recursion, most of the time your opponent will just let your dead dudes bounce back to your hand, as if they pay the 3 life to send your guy to the yard, Alesha's likely gonna bring him back anyway. Alesha only targets 2 power or less though, so to make up for that we have Immortal Servitude. Bringing back Arashin Foremost, Kessig Malcontents, Chief of the Edge and Archtype of Aggression just to name a few are huge!

Burns / Removal - The inclusion of Isochron Scepter helps us get the most out of the instant speed spells in the deck. All of them (with the exception of Secure the Wastes) are targets, and the Scepter + Lightning Helix, Boros Charm or Terminate is pretty much a game ender if they don't blow up the Scepter immediately. The idea here is just to clear a path for buffed up Warriors to swing freely.

Utility Stuff - Ghitu Encampment and Mutavault become Warriors, Cavern of Souls makes Warriors uncounterable, while Eiganjo Castle, Maze of Ith and Kor Haven are defensive. Dolmen Gate for the attack, Hammer of Purphuros for haste. Phyrexian Arena for card advantage, Mardu Ascendancy for the army of tokens to buff Goblin Rabblemaster into a behemoth.

Sideboard - Alternate removal, plus Circle of Flame and Bile Blight for tokens. Chief of the Scale for aggro. Erase, Radiant Purge, and Wear / Tear for Artifacts/Enchantments. Grand Abolisher for control.

Suggestions Appreciated

Right now, I feel like the biggest issues with the deck are the Mana Base (too slow?), and the sideboard, which probably doesn't address a wide enough variety of problems. Also for the time being, there's a ton of cards in the maybe folder. Some of them are closer to actual inclusion than others, but I'm curious what your thoughts are. Any help in either department would be very appreciated!
