Official card switch —Sept. 8, 2018

As of today Metallic Mimic has replaced adaptive automaton and Spidersilk Net has replaced Spider Climb.

It seems like this deck us all about getting swole asap and beating face, and in that regard there’s probably a few changes that might improve things.

Personally I don’t see either Acidic Slime or Adaptive Automaton giving you much value, compared to some beef like Managorger Hydra and Rishkar, Peema Renegade.

Asceticism also seems waay to slow without ramp and a measly 20 lands. It means it won’t see play on average until turn ~8 when you draw your 5th land!! I’d rather see those 2 cards being forests instead to give you a more stable land base (and so your 3-drops have a fighting chance of coming out on time)

Also, fyi, Spider Climb isn’t a modern-legal card so you may want to ditch it from the sideboard

Thank you for the suggestions Wallis! I may consider rashkar. As for acidic slime I use it for my main removal or to short my opponent mana. I do certainly see your concerns though. I do want to keep to mostly ooze though as this deck is trying to be semi tribal. In regards to spider climb I am aware of its legality but it is how I play the deck when playing casual with friends. If you know of any modern legal reach or fly enchantments I would really appreciate it. I almost forgot, I would agree with you that adaptive is not a card of extreme value and could easily be switched out.

AEther Web is a modern legal version of spider climb. If you’re not worried about casting at instant speed to catch someone out, Web is less mana.

But i’ve typically always ran Spidersilk Net when in desperate need of reach, as it stays in play even when the creature dies - which makes it much stronger than the fragile enchants!

Wallis thank you greatly for all the advice and options. I too after weighing the cards feel as though I may find use in spidersilk net.

Update: I am considering replacing Adaptive Automaton with Metallic Mimic it has some trade off in wording but includes the word counter which will play well with hardened scales.

Metallic Mimic is a great choice and should defo be bought in - it’s both faster than automation, and more useful for your counter operation.

I’m still concerned by acidic slime, as mentioned before with only 20 lands you won’t see this guy till turn 8/9. If your opponent has a troublesome artifact/enchant/land, you’ve already been living that hellscape for 3-5 turns before the oozes entry, so he’ll be coming down too late to likely save you from anything dangerous. 20 lands is just too few to support this chap.

Keeping with the ooze theme, instead of the slime, can I suggest 3 copies of Slime Molding (it’ll see play sooner and with mimic could come out quite large for a small mana investment) and a single copy of Ooze Flux (it’s a slow card so you don’t want more than 1 in your deck, but provides infinite oozes alongside mimic in grindier matchups)

Acidic Slime is a 1 or 2 of in the sideboard at best imo

Asceticism should probably also be Blossoming Defense because by turn 8/9 protecting your dudes is probably a bit late
