An Overview
Hello, and welcome to Oooooooooozes! (That's with 10 O's. Why 10 O's, you ask? Well, I'm not so sure myself.) This is a Golgari midrange deck, with two awesome win conditions:(1) Beat the enemy to death with Lotleth Troll and
Reaper of the Wilds
, OR (2): combo off with an arbitrarily large Quillspike or Necrotic Ooze. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this deck contains an infinite combo.
The Combo
This is how the combo works. This assumes Quillspike and Devoted Druid are in the graveyard and Necrotic Ooze is on the battlefield.
1) Start by tapping the ooze for .
2) Then, put a -1/-1 counter on it to untap it.
3) Use the to give it +3/+3 until end of turn.
4) Rinse and repeat until you have an arbitrarily large Ooze, and swing for the win! This combo also works if you have a Quillspike and Devoted Druid on the battlefield.
Card Choices
All creatures in this deck have been specially chosen to be usable in either strategy.
Lotleth Troll: A great creature to drop on turn 2 to put some early pressure on your opponent. Works great as a discard outlet to get that Quillspike or Devoted Druid you need into the graveyard.
Fauna Shaman: A real all-star in this deck. Helps you to tutor for combo pieces while dumping creatures in the graveyard, or can be used to transmute that useless Thornling you drew in your opening hand into a Lotleth Troll or Birds of Paradise for early-game goodness.
Reaper of the Wilds
: A solid threat that you can play as early as turn 3 with all the ramp, and incredibly hard to remove. And if this accidentally lands up in the graveyard? You now have a hexproof Necrotic Ooze with deathtouch!
Devoted Druid: Great for ramp, and forms one half on the combo with Quillspike. This beauty can tap for in a pinch, and if you really need it in the graveyard, it can commit suicide.
Quillspike: The other half of the combo. This guy, however, is useful only if you have a Devoted Druid out on the field - otherwise, you always want him in the graveyard. I'd say he's one of the weakest creatures in this deck, but unfortunately necessary.
Grim Poppet,
Thornling
: These guys are your toolbox. Toss the Poppet in the grave with a Devoted Druid, and your Necrotic Ooze can now wipe the board! Toss Thornling in, and you now have a 30/30 indestructable trampler!
Grisly Salvage: This serves the multiple purposes of tutoring for creatures, or helping you hit the land drops. The choice of what to put in your hand has to be made very carefully here, especially with the twin strategies that this deck employs.
An Afterword
Finally, thank you very much, kind reader, for reading this lengthy description. Lotleth Troll thanks you, too. Since you've gotten this far, I'd really appreciate if you could leave a comment below, or lend me an upvote! (I swear I'll return it when you need it back.) This deck is still a work in progress, and I'd greatly welcome any comments. And now, if you'll excuse me, I really must go feed my trolls.
