Maybeboard


You always remeber your first one, don't you? When building my first Commander Deck I thought "How can I integrate a game mechanic that doesn't do a lot?" In the end I decided I wanted to do something with my lands. And Omnath is perfect for that!

Version 1.0 had a lot of random stuff that just did things with lands and elementals. I looked over it and reworked it. Version 1.1 was far better designed, it had a mix of beaters, ramp and animation. I playtested it a couple of times and found out that when I cut a bit of the animation and add more cheap ramp creatures, removal and utility, it is a lot more reactive and I can play cards in the early game. So here we have it, Landdawn V1.3

The key piece is Omnath. Without him, nothing works. Honestly, I have no win condition. I have a lot of cards that are very powerful but the plan is to spawn a crapton of elementals and attack to either beat the sh*t out of my opponents or to bolt them with leathal Commander Damage.

This Deck consists of 8 parts:

Rampers search for lands to be put on the field or in my hand. Great to get Omnath, great with Omnath out. That's why this deck is so satisfying, you have barely any useless pieces. Extra-Landfallers cause - you guessed it - more Landfall! They bring Lands back to my hand, enable me to play more of them or cause them to return to the field. Beater use the lands to beat your opponent to death. Pretty straight forward. Budoka Gardener / Dokai, Weaver of Life , Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar , Rubblehulk , Tilonalli's Summoner , Ulvenwald Hydra , Walker of the Grove , Zendikar Incarnate

Animators make the lands beat my opponents aswell. I used to have more of them, but I found out that the Locus of Rage prefers the Landfall, while them becoming Elementals is something for the Locus of the Roil (Stay tuned...) Removal takes care of nasty cards my opponents play. V1.2 didn't have them and it was pretty much non-interactive. This way it is a lot more politics. AEther Membrane , Broken Bond , Decimate , Field of Ruin , Ghost Quarter , Ground Assault , Hull Breach , Obliterate , Spidersilk Armor , Struggle / Survive

Key-cards are the most powerful ones in the deck. Their effects can turn the tides and decide the outcome. But when two of them land on the board at the same time, that is where the fun begins. Parallel Lives , Perilous Forays , Tempt with Vengeance , Warstorm Surge , Zendikar's Roil

The combos are the following: Omnath, Locus of Rage + Perilous Forays You pay 1 Mana, sacrifice an Elemental, bolt something. You search your library for a land and get the Elemental back. Repeat until you run out of Mana or targets. Omnath, Locus of Rage + Perilous Forays + Zendikar's Roil The same as above, but you sacrifice the little one and get a 5/5 per cycle to beat your opponent with. Neat Omnath, Locus of Rage + Perilous Forays + Warstorm Surge The same as above, but you deal 8 damage instead of 3 per cycle. Azusa, Lost but Seeking + Evolving Wilds + Ramunap Excavator Have no lands? Fine, here are 3 per turn for free. Also, that's 6 5/5s per turn. Azusa, Lost but Seeking + Living Twister Bouncing a land 3 times per turn? Why not. Also, that's 3 5/5s per turn. Life's Legacy + Omnath, Locus of Rage Sac the Elemental, draw 5, bolt something.

When playing this deck, you always seem far more threatening than you actually are. Also, I favour cards that have triggered abilities over cards that do something powerful right now. Cards like Second Harvest might be more powerful than Parallel Lives , especially at higher power levels, but I personally prefer persistent effects. This deck could be at powerlevel 8, but the slow effects, the need for Omnath to be on the board to do anything and the threatening cards rank it down to level 7.

This deck is by no means the final answer, there are several ways to play Omnath. Maybe you prefer Second Harvest and Splendid Reclamation over Parallel Lives and Perilous Forays . Please comment down below. Make the deck your own and have fun with the Landfall!
