v2.4 - Shadows Over Innistrad Update!!! 241 votes! —April 16, 2016

Sorry for the delay on this Update, this was not an easy choice to make! There were quite a few cards to consider, but only one that made the final cut. I only got feedback from a couple people, so if anyone else has an opinion, please let me know.

For full descriptions on why these changes were made, please refer to the Change Log section of the Primer. To understand why other cards in this set did not make the cut for me refer to the Omissions part of the Primer. PLEASE leave me feedback on these changes. Getting someone else's point of view can make all of the difference.

I would like to thank everyone so much for your support and feedback! This deck would not be where it is today without you. Shout out to Guerte, Thrasymachus0 and Boscogn for the consistent support!!!

Use Nature's Lore rather than Farseek.

VexenX: One thing to note in your Primer, World Breaker is a cast trigger, so the exile won't work with Chord of Calling.

What about Gruul Turf?

February 23, 2016 6:13 p.m.

Guerte says... #4

Nightdragon779: Gruul Turf and Terramorphic Expanse were dropped to make room for 2 Wastes to help out with World Breaker.

I would really put in Zendikar's Roil and Rampaging Baloths. Nothing is sweeter than free creatures.

Nightdragon779 says... #6

Ooh the roil even spews elementals!

GreenGhost: I honestly have no good reason to leave Nature's Lore out other then the fact that there is no foil. Lol. However, I might get an alter done. Which version of the card do you like best?

Guerte: You are completly right! That you for noticing that! I will make the fix!

Nightdragon779: Like Guerte said, Gruul Turf was removed in lieu for a Wastes, but is by no means a bad card in this deck! If you have room for it in your build, I would highly recommend it! It might make its way back in hear sometime.

mande: Zendikar's Roil and Rampaging Baloths are both in the Change Log as well. They are good cards that are just not great to me. I would recommend then for any budget build, or as very good placeholders, but it did not make the final cut for me.

So what you're telling us is that you've got approximately $3000 invested in this... single... deck!?!

A bit absurd my man, but more power to you!

Faiths_Guide says... #9

Oh, and while we're on the subject, why no (foil) Courser of Kruphix in here?

February 24, 2016 2:50 p.m.

Guerte says... #10

Faiths_Guide: I've got about $5k in my Daretti deck.

And I believe the reason for no Courser is that it doesn't ramp you.

February 24, 2016 3:49 p.m.

GreenGhost says... #11

I like the one from fifth, but that's just me.

February 24, 2016 6:19 p.m.

well, Courser of Kruphix would be pretty good for long term sustainability but doesn't give the same rate of acceleration as the standard ramp spells

Faiths_Guide says... #13

So, Guerte, where are you getting all this money to "throw away"?

February 25, 2016 4:14 p.m.

Guerte says... #14

Faiths_Guide: I pieced mine together over time. Traded into some, sold other stuff I wasn't using to buy other pieces. Plus, oilfield money. Before it went down the drain. Lol.

February 25, 2016 5:05 p.m.

VexenX says... #15

Faiths_Guide: How much money people spend on their hobby is not important. Where they get this money is not relevant to the deck build itself, and is a personal question. I pimp out this deck because I think it is a ton of fun to play with.

The great thing about most mono and Duel color decks is that you can easily make a cheaper version in order to meet any player's budget.

Guerte says... #16

VexenX: That's pretty much why I pimped out Daretti. He is my favorite deck of all time, and I felt like making it look really nice. I even went the extra mile and got a custom mat and deck box made. It's a deck near and dear to my heart.

Before I start accidentally making enemies, I think that's awesome Guerte & VexenX!

I was just wondering is all. The fact that you guys put a lot of work into and really enjoy this hobby and the decks you now have is really cool! If you've got the money and it's important to you, go for it!

Faiths_Guide: I'm sorry if it came off like I was mad or something, your question was just very direct, and kind of confusing. I respect budget builders like crazy, but I am not one. I like to build decks with a ton of flash. However, this is my only foiled out deck out of the 8 EDH decks I have. I fell in love with Omnath, Locus of Rage the second he was spoiled 5 months ago, and had the deck built and was playtesting even before Battle of Zendikar was out. This is my only pricey hobby, so I have some money to burn from time to time. Some spend thousands on cars and Warhammer, I just stick to Magic.

All that being said, I made this Primer because I want to help everyone to enjoy what I think to be the best Commander around! If that is someone with a ton of money, my deck can be an inspiration, however, I have a budget build in my Primer because I understand that not everyone is as invested into the game as I am. I just want to help all kinds of player have fun.

I also really appreciate all the feed back and success stories that are posted here! So if anyone has any cool games they want to share I would love to hear them!!!

Is there a reason why Grove of the Burnwillows and or Fire-Lit Thicket are not included in the mana base?

February 26, 2016 5:42 a.m.

VexenX says... #20

GildedGatherer: These lands are not included for the same reason I am not running Command Tower and Rootbound Crag, I don't need any mana fixing. This deck is chalk full of ramp/lands tutors so getting the colors I need is NEVER a problem. These cards slots are better off being filled by more fetchlands and friends. However, if you feel like you want to run them in your deck, more power to ya!

February 26, 2016 8:21 a.m.

Guerte says... #21

VexenX: Thawing Glaciers. I'm kinda starting to sour on this card. Sure, you get a landfall each turn, but it doesn't really ramp you. What are your thoughts? Maybe you can convince me to keep it? I'm really starting to hate the card when I see it.

February 26, 2016 9:37 a.m.

VexenX says... #22

Guerte: Although Thawing Glaciers is not amazing on the first couple turns, it does work mid to late game. It has saved me way to many times for me to remove it. With Amulet of Vigor it is bonkers, and even more so with Burgeoning! That consistent land drop makes the difference between drawing into a wincon with Elemental Bond in play, or blasting away that last player with Warstorm Surge. I can see why you are thinking about removing it, but I am a huge fan

So, I bet you basically use this as a checklist for what foils/alts you still need eh?

Anyway, I love the deck, and I'd like to let you know that you're my inspiration for foiling out my Ghave, Guru of Spores deck. As you have said about Om-Wrath, Ghave is really near and dear to me, and your explanations of why you pimped your out really struck me as a thing that I would want to do for Ghave, so I went and did it. So, thank you for the inspiration, and again, I love the Omnath deck.

Faiths_Guide, GreenGhost, Nightdragon779, mande: If you guys liked the Primer deck list I could really use the Upvote!=) I am in a three way tie for 8th place, and just 7 votes away from 200! I really appreciate all the feed back and support, thank you!

Scouty: Dude... Idk why I did not add the 'W' to Om_Wrath before... Blows my mind lol. Anyway...

Yes, you could say this lists Doubling as a checklist for my foils/alters. However, I mainly put them on here because there are a ton a people that love seeing cool decks in their fullest. On the other hand, some people hate how my list's price is so beefed up because of all the foils, so I made a non-foil equivalent on my deck page.(my list should cost A LOT more because of what I payed for alters and some card foil prices don't add up right, mainly my foil full art land set.)

This is exactly what makes Magic such a good game! I use to be the player that would trade away every foil card I had for non foils and think to myself "suckers!" That all changed once I had a real reason to obtain a foil card! Some people love them for collections, others want them just to show off, but most players (like us) foil out their decks because they have a bond with them, and want nothing more them to show everyone else that! I built this deck off my own design (with the help of countless feedback and advice for all of you of course!!!) and am extremely proud of it! Even in my local gaming store my build has inspired several players to make variants of my deck and that makes me feel very proud! I love this site because it has allowed me to inspire and reach out to games around the world that want to either build a sweet Om_Wrath deck, or even pimp out their favorite commander, like you! Thank you so much for sharing! I was priovously a long time decklist/Primer stalker (the many people who watch lists religiously but never comment or upvote), and I am grateful that you spoke up your appreciation, it makes my day!
