Primer v2.3 - Ranked #8 EDH deck!!! 190 votes! —Feb. 20, 2016

WOW! I am amazed how much support you all have given me over the last few months! I never imagined that my deck would be voted into the top 10 Commander decks on Tappedout! All of your feedback is what made this deck as awesome as it is today! Thank you!

My deck is now 95% completely pimped out! I was able to get may hand on all my Zendikar Expeditions that I wanted! Plus I got all my non-foil cards altered! (The ones that have no existing foil copy). Now all I need is to get foil Cavern of Souls, Gaea's Cradle, Scapeshift and Azusa, Lost but Seeking. I am not sure what I am going to do for Taiga yet...

I also made a few changes. For more info on why, check out the change long in the Primer!

Guerte: I just sent out my copies of Burgeoning, Ashnod's Altar, Tempt with Discovery, Ghost Town, Myriad Landscape, and Titania, Protector of Argoth to get altered! The same person that did my Omnath, Locus of Rage, and Life from the Loam. I am REALLY excited to see how they turn out!!!

I am too. I always love seeing alters. Wish I was artistic.

VexenX: I was really excited to see 2.2 out!

I think your land switches for the Wastes were good choices. I was going to remove two basics myself, but this just seems much better.

Why Spellbreaker over Spearbreaker? Personally, I'd rather have creatures on the battlefield get destroyed than to never come out in the first place. Omnath is really the only one I wanna protect from getting countered. The can blow up my elementals all they want. Lol.

I still have to decide what I want to cut for World Breaker, Mina and Denn, and an Ashnod's Altar.

Guerte: I am pretty excited about it too! I think this deck might be fine with only one Wastes, but having two is a little safer.

There are only a handful of Blue players in my local Meta, and they don't really play me much. Both Spellbreaker over Spearbreaker are very unexciting cards in a very exciting deck. I find myself not really playing either of them unless i just have a ton of extra mana to throw away.

VexenX: Fair enough. Majority of players in my group play blue, so I gotta keep Spellbreaker in my list. For the time being at least.

Side note: How'd you get your spoiler coding to work? For some reason, I can't get that kind to work on my page; just the basic ugly kind.

Do you mean...?

I organized this Primer into my own custom categories as they fit in with the deck-list. There will be certain cards that appear in multiple categories.

Ramp - Ramp spells are those that increase mana acceleration and production.

Landfall - Any cards that focus on lands hitting the battlefield. This is different than the Ramp category because these spells do not search for lands.

Tokens - Cards in this category focus on one thing, making tokens!!! If this is producing tokens or doubling the production of tokens, it is all fair game.

Removal/Burn - Most removal is coming from Omnath, Locus of Rage himself, burning anything you desire to the ground. The major downside is when you face Indestructible but you are not playing anyway.

Bombs/Finishers - All cards in this category are a force to be reckoned with. Most of the times it means you win, unless dealt with quickly.

Card Draw - You will find yourself with an empty hand pretty fast if you dont start drawing cards! With all of the extra lands you are playing each turn, you need ways to drew even more lands!

Sack Outlets - These types are cards are mainly necessary to sacrifice Elementals while Omnath, Locus of Rage is in play in order to deal Lightning Bolts.

Tutors - Tutors are cards that allow you to search/filter your deck for other cards.

Protection - Seeing that Omnath, Locus of Rage is the center piece of your deck, it is important to protect him!

VexenX: Thanks! I did some research after posting. I am in the LONG process of doing this to Daretti.

Guerte: I know what you mean! It took me hours just to figure out how it all worked. But it is a nice feeling when it is done, plus making changes is much easier.

Thank you so much for the two Upvotes!!! Just 6 away from becoming one of the top 25 Commander/EDH decks on Tappout!!!

Guerte says... #10

VexenX: Yeah it definitely is a long process but I know once it's done I will be really happy with it.

I want Daretti to be the highest voted list here. Last I checked I was around number 5.

It seem like this are going pretty good for you! I have 8 cards out getting altered right now. The hardest part for Om_rath is the remaining Zendikar Expaditions that I need... then I will only have 5 cards to foil... but each is $100+... and Gaea's Cradle foil is like $450... that will be the last card I get...

Just 4 more votes away from being one of the TOP 25 EDH/ Commander decks in TAPPOUT!!!

So I played a few games on Xmage today with the updated Omnath, and I learned two things:

It really is nice to have 2 additional fetchable basics (Wastes).

And World Breaker is awesome.

Played a game vs Nekusar. It was pretty slow for me. No ramp. Turn 3 Elemental Bond. Turn five Where Ancients Tread. He got out a Phyrexian Tyranny and then Nekusar. On turn 7, I cast World Breaker and exile his enchantment. Stack my triggers so I kill his Nekusar and draw card with no damage. Next turn I cast Omnath and start popping out tokens, dealing damage, and drawing cards.

It was glorious.

Guerte: That sounds fantastic! I am glad the changes are working out! I played Om_rath once yesterday and won thanks to a turn 1 Sol Ring.. Skipping two turns in an aggressive EDH deck pretty much means you win by turn 5-6 garenteed. For me it was a a Genesis Wave into a Craterhoof Behemoth.... Ya... I didn't see any new cards yet though. I'll keep you posted!

Holy cow! It seems like you guys are doing awesomely with Nomnath. I'm still about 60% into my deck but don't even know if I'll ever be able to finish it due to lack of time to go out and find the cards I'm missing. :o

TehPudding: Have you had the chance to check out my budget build? It might be easier for you to build that! I have play tested it quite a bit, and it runs like a charm!

January 17, 2016 7:47 p.m.

TehPudding says... #16

VexenX: I have. Budget hasn't been such an issue before. It's the fact that I'm looking for foils, promos and things that no one here seems to have. :P

Still love this list, but I'm curious how World Breaker has been testing? I'm thinking of running one as well, but I didn't pull one in prerelease.

VexenX says... #19

irongills: Thank you so much for the support! The deck is an amazing mix of fun and crazy powerful!

Think about World Breaker this way. Omnath gets rife of any creature or Planeswalker that come into play. This card gets ride of all the rest! You have way more lands then you will ever need, so sacking a few is no problem. Plus crucible of world make it even more insane! Casting this 2-3 time a turn is not unheard of.

VexenX: Thank the heavens they left our fetches alone!

Thoughts on the new mulligan rule and making off-color mana?

January 18, 2016 6:27 p.m.

VexenX says... #21

Guerte: I am kinda bummed about the Prophet getting banned, but that obviously doesn't effect us here.

The mulligan rule is a good thing I think. It hurts boring combo decks. I am not sure what to think about the color rule... What are your thoughts?

January 18, 2016 6:57 p.m.

Guerte says... #22

VexenX: I'm bummed about prophet too. I ran her in my Ezuri deck so now I gotta find a replacement.

I like the mulligan rule in a sense that combo players can't sculpt their hand to their liking. And that's the same reason I hate it: I like to sculpt my hand for every deck I run.

The off-color mana production doesn't really affect us, but for something like Sen Triplets, it's a godsend.

Have you considered Manabond it combos great with Storm Cauldron and can be great early game ramp.

January 21, 2016 11:18 p.m.

VexenX says... #24

dcponcho: I can see how Manabond and Storm Cauldron work so well together, but I think Manabond is a little to situational for me. Maybe if I ran a ton of cards like Eternal Witness, Regrowth, and Greenwarden of Murasa it would be more tempting. Thank you for the suggetion, it is definitely something to think about!

What are your thoughts on a cheaper($) mana base? I'm out of reach of some...Gaea's Cradle alone :-( but in the mean time. I do have a spare wasteland and thought that be fun for the recursion effects.
