Primer v2.1. 25 votes away from top 25 EDH deck! —Dec. 4, 2015

Thank you all SO much for the support! I can't believe this deck has 111 votes in just a couple months!!!

I have been getting a ton of great feedback and advice, and it is all greatly appreciated! However, followers like Boscogn has been brought to my attention that it is hard to suggest changes to a deck that is so solid. Any changes that would be made at this point would have to be player by player preference or meta challenges. Nevertheless, this got me thinking... This deck is very competitive, so why not take it to the next level!...

LETS MAKE A SIDEBOARD!

I will need everyone's help to make this successful! I have a list of cards that I have thought up on the fly, but I know I have to of missed a few!

Please help me cut this list of 20 down to the allowed 10 card sideboard, as well as suggesting any cards that you think should make the clip in the sideboard!

Here is my list (in order by my current preference):

1) Arachnogenesis

2) Scavenging Ooze

3) Ancient Grudge

4) Eternal Witness

5) Greenwarden of Murasa

6) Asceticism

7) Beast Within

8) Chaos Warp

9) Nylea, God of the Hunt

10) Tooth and Nail

11) Silklash Spider

12) Natural Order

13) Green Sun's Zenith

14) Spidersilk Armor

15) Reclamation Sage

16) Restore

17) Krosan Grip

18) Zendikar's Roil

19) Buried Ruin

20) Triumph of the Hordes

VexenX: My deck is more centered around burn, with attacking as an alternate wincon haha. I did actually think about Shared Animosity, but it seemed too conditional for me. I decided to go with Coat of Arms instead. I also added Overwhelming Stampede because it gives a similar effect, but i don't necessarily have to attack to use it. Another card that's pretty silly in this type of deck is Ulasht, the Hate Seed. ESPECIALLY if you have doubling season on the field.

I also like to run Strionic Resonator and Rings of Brighthearth in most of my decks because copying triggers and abilities is always fun! :)

Elemental Mastery. Elementals are made, then, if you have a sac outlet, they will probably cry

Kala: Elemental Mastery is suggested more then any other card, so I would be a fool not to at least try it out. My problem with Auras is being "Two for Oned"... But is is worth a shot.

I feel like it isn't really worth it without more sac outlets like Ashnod's Altar. If you feel you have enough sac outlets, it is borderline necessary for you to use Mastery.

Who is going to be #100?!

November 21, 2015 6:25 p.m.

haha congrats on the 100, btw it's been awhile since I checked back on this page, but since you took out Primal Vigor to be less group huggy, do you think it would also be a good idea for my list to do the same? Only problem is I don't have Doubling Season and I'm not exactly in the best position to shell out 25 bucks for one hahaha, thoughts?

here's my list btw:http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/not-gruul-then-die-omnath-edition-1/

I've taken a lot of inspiration from yours and another's deck list. Would you mind taking a look?

Omnath, Locus on Steroids

YAY! 100 VOTES!!!

Massive_Banana: It's great to have you back! As you know, it is pretty difficult to make changes to well performing EDH decks. It becomes a battle between "good and best". That's where Primal Vigor comes into the picture. Having a token-doubler in play for more then a turn normally means GG, but having two in play just means overkill. Because you don't have Doubling Season I would keep Primal Vigor. However, if it is causing more bad then good in your Meta, get rid of it. I took it out because I needed another sack-outlet (Goblin Bombardment). I'll check out your list after this post.

Guerte: Welcome to the Om_rath Army! I'd be happy to check out you list!

Ahh definitely make sense. Thanks for the advice, but so far it seems ok. Like the Primal Vigor hasn't screwed me a game yet. specifically in my playgroup, me getting 2 tokens with every land is usually more back breaking compared to what they typically get. Although that might change with Ezuri, Claw of Progress and Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest being just released.

Massive_Banana: I didn't really take Primal Vigor out because it was helping my opponents, but because I just didn't need a third token doubler. I thought another sack-outlet was more important.

Not sure if it just me, but I see two spellbreaker behemoths in your list.

Bro, HUGE props on this build. I love the synergy and it just feels SAVAGE.

I already have the key ramp cards for the deck so I think I'm gonna build this outright!

feyn_do_alduin: I'm glad you like the deck! Your right, Savage is a great word to describe it lol! I have often had 10+ Elemental Tokens in play by turn 3 lol.

Welcome to the Om_rath Army!

VexenX, I forgot to mention that I also have been working on a Nomnath deck. Even though it's more 1v1 oriented: Insert smart Nomnath joke here

RoarMaster says... #20

T1: Land, Burgeoning, 4 player game drop 3 more lands.

T2: Land, sol ring, 6 mana and one card in hand available. Somehow drop Omnath with that last card?

T3: 7-8 mana and 0-1 cards available, somehow make 10 elementals?

Please if you dont mind showing me a couple of ways(or one?) that you get "10+ elementals by turn 3"? Im curious what I am missing here.

November 23, 2015 8:46 p.m.

VexenX bro I made a couple changes to my version of the list because of budget reasons AND improvements.

Taiga out for Vesuva because $$$$

Gaea's Cradle out for Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle because $$$$ AAAAAAND more importantly, synergy(scapeshift) and higher potential damage output

Tempt with Discovery out for Silverglade Elemental because who doesn't like a 4/4 that fetches and bolts when it dies. I added this largely because the creature count is quite low and in my play group i feel that nomnath would be widely suppressed as much as possible.

Fertilid for Burnished Hart because you spend less mana overall for the same effect and there's no color restriction.

I also balanced out the mountains and forests to 50/50 because Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle

and lastly I removed all 4 of the tap land fetches in favour of more basics so I don't whiff when I use a ramp spell.

still love the deck!

RoarMaster:I just played this game a couple days ago, it was turn 4, but you'll see what I'm talking about:

T1 - Forest --> Sol Ring

T2 - Mountain --> Tempt with Discovery (get four lands in play untapped) -->Amulet of Vigor and Elemental Bond

T3 - Cast Omnath, Locus of Rage(Draw), play a fetchland(Draw) and pop it(Draw) --- Rampant Growth(Draw). (Now have 4 Elementals and 5-6 cards in hand)

T4 - Cast Purphoros, God of the Forge play land for turn then Scapeshift (gaining 9 elemental dudes and drawing 9 cards). I then had a ton of mana open and a ton of cards in hand. I won that turn thanks to Purphoros, God of the Forge and Goblin Bombardment.

Ill keep my eyes open for a T3 win, but it has happened, just can't remember a play-by-play.

feyn_do_alduin: With all your changes, I think the only one I would have to disagree with is removing Tempt with Discovery! It might be my favorite card in the deck! You almost never get only 1 land, and even if it is just 2, that is better then Explosive Vegetation (they are untapped and non-basic!)

The great thing about this deck it that it does not have to cost 2k to be amazing! I have seen this deck under $100 taking face! Let me know how your play testing goes brotha!

Thoughts on adding Gamble to specifically tutor for Life from the Loam?

November 24, 2015 8:20 p.m.

Guerte Gamble is great for a 1 drop tutor, but it's only a whirlwind slam pick in red decks with lots on recursion like the red 2014 commander precon, or jund reanimator
