Hot Damn does Obeka, Brute Chronologist kick some serious ass. There are just so many fun and interesting builds that you can make around her. There's the Reanimator route, Splinter Twin , Cheap Turns a la Final Fortune , but the one that got me the most interested is Hive Mind . Not seeing it yet? Well think about it like this. If you cast something like Final Fortune or Pact of the Titan and let it resolve while Hive Mind is on the board every player now has to find a way to the end the game or pay the price. All while you, the very wise Obeka player, will just end your turn before the lose trigger resolves.

With that said, this isn't something players just let happen. So I thought to myself, how do we make sure that we land a silly combo such as this? Well, we're going to need a control shell. One that Preferably works well with the surprise factor that we have going on. After a bit of brainstorming, I arrived at a flash and instant speed style deck. This way we can throw off the table by having our hand also pull double duty as our board presence. It also lets us play with some of the cool new flash creatures like Opposition Agent or Hullbreacher .

Despite some of the scarier pieces, the primary goal of this deck is going to be keep things interactive and interesting. We aren't going to be racing the table to some stupid fast victory or lock the table out of the game before it begins. As such, expect to see some stranger picks in my list which we'll go over later down the line. Now, without further ado, lets start breaking down this deck!

Before we get too much further I need to explain one of the key pieces of this build, deck, and all around commander. Pact effects! This is mostly in reference to the pact cycle such as Pact of the Titan or Slaughter Pact but it can be anything that would force you to lose the game. We run quite a few of them here but not every pact is created equal

As an example, Hive minding a Pact of Negation is not going to do anything except create a pointless counter war where the active player is the only one left with a lose trigger. The other one to be aware of is Glorious End since it will just end the active players turn and then delete every other copy of glorious end. They aren't bad cards to cast into the Hive Mind , they just could be something more impactful.

Now, Before you go and try to combo off like a mad man you need to take a good look over the players at your table and determine what pact is going to work best. If everyone at the table lacks either black or red, Go for either Pact of the Titan or Slaughter Pact Respectively. On the other hand If you fight a bunch of W U B R G Master Race, elitists, I recommend using something more in line with Final Fortune since it doesn't allow people to pay their way out of their pact.

After that, You'll need to play out your choice as you go. Are you afraid of someone removing Obeka? Play an O G pact so you can pay your way out of the pact. Afraid of counterspells? Go for the Extra turn card so that they can only cover one instance and leave a massive target on their back.

After you've determined the best pact card for the job, the rest comes pretty easily. I can sum it all up for you in 3 easy steps

  1. Cast Your Hive Mind
  2. Cast a pact effect (For maximum fun, I recommend Final Fortune )
  3. Use Obeka to end the turn in response to your copy of the pact.
Right, so what happens if someone has permanently deleted your Hive Mind from the game? This is why we pack some alternate win-cons right into our basic builds. The two big ones are going to be Dualcaster Mage + Sublime Epiphany as well as any of our untappers with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker . They're compact and tend to work into our general strategy. None of these are completely dead cards out of combo and keep us from stalling out the game, which is the very last thing we want.

Now as of the moment of writing this, the entire deck is up for changes and improvements since A few of the key pieces have not even remotely been released yet. You know, cards like the commander of our deck. As such, this is mostly a preliminary draft for a concept that could change under play testing. Until then though, keep brewing!
