The Deck

Kenrith is back and he intends to take back full control of his kingdom at all costs under his authoritarian monarchy. This is my Kenrith, the Returned King political control deck that is mainly . I've tuned this deck to work well in 75% pods where combos are very common. The goal is to play politics and control the pace of the game till a winning window is found. Kenrith's life gain ability is actually underrated as it synergies with life consuming cards like Toxic Deluge, Sylvan Library, and Lim-Dul's Vault. Other common builds are group hug, pillowfort, and cEDH (torchhulk, consultation, etc).

Basic Strategy

Since this is a control deck, ramping early game is extremely important to propel me into the mid game. The two types of ramp in the deck are mana rocks and Exploration effects. Either way, getting to at least 5 mana by turn 4 is the bare minimum. After ramping, drawing cards to keep up with the table should be next. Kenrith himself provides a pretty decent card draw engine and Rhystic Study helps as well. Once everything is under control, Peregrine Drake provides an easy infinite win condition with Kenrith and Phyrexian Tower. How the combo works is to have at least 5 lands in play (including Phyrexian Tower). Using Peregrine Drake as an example, sacrifice it to the tower to make . Float the other 4 lands for whatever mana they can produce to total up . Activate Kenrith's reanimation ability () to put drake back in play which will untap the 5 lands you just tapped. This infinite loop will net one mana of any color you decide to float. Infinite is all you need to draw everyone out of the game. The early ramp engine should get me enough lands to pull this off with permissions to back my combo up.

Synergies

• Eternal Witness + Phyrexian Tower + Kenrith, the Returned King's ability = Regrowth effect every turn (this with Cyclonic Rift is pretty backbreaking and Seedborn Muse basically makes this a hard lock)

• Seedborn Muse/Wilderness Reclamation + Kenrith, the Returned King = Multiple Kenrith activations per round

• Glen Elendra Archmage + Kenrith, the Returned King = Unlimited use by reanimating it back with Kenrith's ability once its in the graveyard or putting a +1/+1 counter on it after it persisted back

• Cryptic Command + Mystic Sanctuary = Have a cryptic every turn by countering or drawing a spell and bouncing sanctuary back to hand

Win Condition

• Peregrine Drake + Phyrexian Tower + Kenrith, the Returned King's ability (with 5 lands in play) = Infinite mana to win with Kenrith, the Returned King's ability

• Eternal Witness + Phyrexian Tower + Kenrith, the Returned King's ability + Time Warp = Infinite turns
