Wolf/Elf/Ledev/Selesnya-themed deck with a few flavor rules I threw in to make it more interesting. But wait, where did I leave them again?

Da Rules Show

If you feel like this deck does not obey any of these rules, or that there should be more rules, or even that the current rules should be changed, feel free to point it out! I will gladly change the deck if it means it can be as flavorful and fun as it can be.

As for the synergies, let's move on to the primer!

Fighting (gold)

Lifegain

Token Generation

Anthems/Temporary Buffs

*Recursion

  • Eternal Witness
  • *The deck is sorely lacking in this aspect, but alas, I cannot find any wolf/elf-themed mass recursion spells. If I missed one, I'd love to hear about it.

*Protection

  • Privileged Position
  • Rootborn Defenses
  • *Another sorely lacking aspect of this deck. Many times do I find that I have no way of protecting my commander, who is crucial to the strategy. Advice welcome.

*Hard Removal

Card Advantage

Ramp

  • Tolsimir, Friend to Wolves + Wren's Run Packmaster (deathtouch fighters+fighter generation)
  • Primal Forcemage + Tolsimir, Friend to Wolves (+3/+3 for fresh fighters)
  • Fecundity + Feed the Pack (sac a creature to feed the pack, get more creatures and a card)
  • Beastcaller Savant + Turntimber Ranger (another ally trigger)
  • If I find any more, I'll add them here.
  • Here's where I explain why some cards just didn't make the cut. However, I just might come back on my words later.
  • Arlinn, Voice of the Pack comes out late and doesn't have much impact.
  • Darkthicket Wolf , Fang of the Pack , Howlgeist , Nyxborn Wolf , Quilled Wolf , Pack Guardian , Sacred Wolf , Tundra Wolves , Wandering Wolf and Wyluli Wolf are all pretty generic and don't contribute much to the deck with unique abilities.
  • Hunter's Insight has cool art, but the ability is too situational.
  • Sword of Body and Mind might spawn wolf tokens, but other than that it's expensive and has little to no flavor.
  • Wolfkin Bond fits excellently flavor-wise, but is a terrible card :(
  • Wilt-Leaf Liege and Yeva, Nature's Herald fit the elf tribal and are powerful, but alas they have broken their dog allegiance.
  • Trostani, Selesnya's Voice has an alright effect, but my deck doesn't capitalize enough on lifegain to make it worthwhile.
  • I'll add more cards to the maybeboard as they catch my attention. Any advice on what I should cut from the mainboard in favor of the maybeboard cards is greatly appreciated.
  • To revise the decklist by replacing the least powerful cards with more powerful, but equally flavorful cards. I gave up trying to come up with a better name for the deck. Also considering removing all non-Elf/Wolf creatures to further focus on the theme of elves and wolves cooperating. Also also thinking about removing lands that make allusions to other planes, like Oran-Rief, the Vastwood . It would also also also be pretty cool to have some more recursion/protection/kill spells so as to have the deck be more reactive, but I'm having trouble finding any that are on-theme and effective. Thoughts and recommendations?

So uh, thanks for checking out this deck. Hope you liked what you saw, and if you didn't, I'll happily respond to criticism. That's all folks!

Before, this deck used to be called Wolven Storm. Back when I didn't have a commander picked, it started off as a collection of all the canines I could find, including cute hound cards like Snow Hound and a few wolves here and there. The plan was to make "good boy tribal": include as many hounds and wolves as possible, and just hope they all mesh and buff each other.

Unfortunately, WOTC was not kind to the Hound creature type, as there was seemingly no synergy within its own tribe, and not even wolf buffs could help them out. So, I went with the next best thing: I cut the hounds and made a wolf deck based off the commander with the cutest wolf interaction, Tolsimir, Friend to Wolves.

Queue a slew of changes and revisions. For a while I stayed with a mix of flavor and power, which seemed to me to be the best a commander deck could reasonably hope for. Some cards betrayed the flavor, sure, but there if it meant the deck could stay competitive and that I could stand a chance against my playgroup, then I was all for it.

However, with a terrible longing for what was at first a funny dog meme deck came an idea for a little challenge to spice things back up: why not try to go all in on the commander's Wolf/Elf/Ledev/Selesnyan flavor while still trying to maintain a semblance of competitiveness? And here we are now, with the worst deck this side of TappedOut. At least I can still retain the "dignity" of having a deck with little to no compromise of theme, I suppose. I'll keep updating the deck to make it as powerful and yet as flavorful as possible.
