Planeswalker (1)

Sorcery (1)

Nin, the Pain Artist can deal X damage to target creature, but then its controller draws X cards. In order to turn this apparent drawback into an advantage, this deck is full of cards that damage your opponents, and sometimes any player, for having lots of cards in hand.

Details:

  • Fevered Visions, Ebony Owl Netsuke, Iron Maiden, Misers' Cage , Skullcage , Blood Oath , Molten Psyche, Stormbreath Dragon, and Viseling all penalize opponents for having large hands.
  • Adamaro, First to Desire can potentially be huge.
  • Null Brooch , in addition to being a repeatable counterspell, lets you discard your hand to escape any of the taxes that affect all players. (I have a minor obsession with trying to make this card useful.)
  • Words of Wind can also keep your hand size small, while acting as removal that also increases the number of cards in opponents' hands.
  • Anvil of Bogardan is a huge help to maximizing the damage done to opponents, since it is the only card that gives not just you but all players no maximum hand size. Thus, despite its high price, I felt like it had to be included.
  • All of the board wipes in this deck return cards to their owners' hands.
  • Several cards have wheel effects, but only those that make players draw as many cards as they discarded. These help to get you the cards you need while also potentially making mill a viable secondary strategy.
  • There are a bunch of cards to give Nin and other creatures hexproof or shroud.
  • Lastly, there is a lot of ramp to maximize Nin's ability.

This deck should be a lot of fun. It can do lots of damage every turn if you get several tax effects out, and it is a really unconventional, risky strategy. Despite Anvil of Bogardan's high price, the deck is still pretty low budget, too, probably because most of the time players don't want to give cards to their opponents.

Nin is so interesting, I made another deck list for her: Nin's Stuffy Doll (Budget EDH). Be sure to check it out for a nearly opposite build.
