The madlad went and did it! Only four sweepers! —May 31, 2019

I've been testing Condemnagain, and I'm trying something that seems a tad weird: I'm cutting a Supreme Verdictfor a copy of Condemn. My reasoning for this is that my four-drop slot is pretty loaded at the moment, and Supreme Verdictoften just doesn't get it done. Because Humans is still a deck, I am also playing with a Blast Zonein the slot that Ghost Quarterwas taking up. I feel like spot removal is a serious requirement in this current meta, and so having a land be a sweeper is amazing.

Why Oust over Condemn ?

Daveslab2022 Great question! I currently am testing with Condemn (I have the promo version in my maybeboard atm), but I think I like Oust more for two main reasons:

  • First off, Oust is really nice in the Burn matchup because you can loop it with Snapcaster Mage . Oust on Snappy into drawing Snappy and flashing back Oust is big game, and can even win you the game. Six life is two burn spells.

  • Second, Condemn 's requirement for the creature to be attacking does nothing against creature-based combo. While admittedly it is a game-ender against Death's Shadow , it feels super bad to hold up Condemn when there's a Devoted Druid sitting across the table.

TL; DR Condemn is great against Grixis Death's Shadow but I'm currently preferring Oust 's utility.

Appreciate the comment!

I like the Snapcaster and Oust interaction, however oust doesn’t do much against creature based combo either, being a sorcery speed spell. Most creature combos go off the turn they get their creature.

That’s a fair point. The two spells serve very different purposes, but mainly they just act as copies 5-6 of Path to Exile . I play Oust because its fail case is far better than Condemn ’s, in that hitting your own creature with it can be cornercase beneficial.

In truth, it wouldn’t hurt to play both. I just really like having the fourth Cryptic Command at my disposal.

whats the exact reason you run some cards only once? for example hieroglyphic illumination

svimxn The reason for running some cards as one-ofs is because you don't really want to see more than one of those cards per game. Spell Snare is a great example of this: being able to play catchup with your counterspells is awesome when you're on the draw, and a ton of top-tier decks play two-drops as a lynchpin of their strategy (take Thing in the Ice  Flipfor example), but having Spell Snare as a four-of is an absolute disaster against Tron, which plays maybe one playset of two-drops. The reason to play these one-ofs at all is because the deck has a ton of card draw, and so it stands to reason that you'll find what you're looking for.

TL;DR One-ofs are run because you want to see them roughly once per game
