No idea how he died but the new Niv works great with Cloven Casting . So Multicolored spells is the name of the game here. This deck will update the more that is released from War of the Sparks.
This is a multicolor based spell slinger deck that is all about copying spells. Copy spells include: Ral, Storm Conduit , Cloven Casting which is a big theme of the deck, Swarm Intelligence , and Primal Amulet . Removal is a big part of the game plan as spell slingers need to be protected.
Another aspect would be ramp for bigger spells and mana fixing. So Burgeoning , Exploration , Cultivate and Mirari's Wake are a big focus. It keeps the ball rolling with Tatyova, Benthic Druid for the extra card draw.
Flash is another focus which is why Vedalken Orrery and Leyline of Anticipation are in the 99.
Bring back your spells to cast again, especially your win cons. Kess, Dissident Mage , Treasured Find , Reborn Hope , Praetor's Counsel , and All Suns' Dawn .
Main win cons: Always expect these to get copied or returned from the yard.
Mnemonic Betrayal and steal your opponents win cons
Narset Transcendent emblem to lock out the game
Teferi, Hero of Dominaria emblem to exile your opponents perms
Each time you play Niv, you should be able to nearly refill your hand as almost all of the cards are multicolor.
