Commander 2020 updates and Moxfield —April 22, 2020

Now that they're legal I've added Fierce Guardianship & Deflecting Swat over Trickbind and Narset's Reversal. Spell Snare and Grafdigger's Cage are more up in the air if I want to keep them now that Flash Hulk is gone (hurray!), but will leave them in for now.

I'm shifting over to using Moxfield to create/store/edit decks. Niv-Mizzet home is: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/HmRJ5ju54USIf9UVsl5kwQ

I also have been doing a lot of brewing and playing other decks lately so no big updates, although I do have a re-tool of Niv in the back of my mind I'll probably be working on at some point. This will be an alternate list around more free spells (including Gush and Commandeer), a faster Niv, fewer stax pieces. The control build is still very solid, but I think with Swat & Guardianship and Flash out of the picture, a faster Niv approach could have legs.

I don't see any ways to shuffle your graveyard back into your library. In multiplayer games is this not difficult as you'll be unable to ping everybody to death? or do you prefer the Buccaneer win and actively dig for it? What are your opinions on Feldon's Cane or Elixir of Immortality to get your graveyard back into your deck.

Typically it doesn't come up as an issue. By the time Niv comes out peoples lives have been chipped away from Tymna swings, fetching, shock & pain lands. When it does come up there are a few ways to resolve it without a shuffler.

1. Combo with Niv, leaving some number of cards left in the deck, then cast Glint-Horn and move to cleanup with 60+ cards in hand. This will deal 40+ to everyone plus whatever you already dealt.
2. Combo with Niv and kill the 2 players in the strongest positions. Leave 15+ish cards left in your library. Play all your mana rocks, keep a handful of counterspells/interaction. Go into beatdown and just win via commander damage or regular damage
3. Combo with Niv and evenly distribute damage. Get down to a few cards in deck and use Dockside and bounce spells to repeatedly bounce him and get a bunch of treasures. Cast a Rolling Earthquake large enough to kill them but not you.

Although I once ran an Eldrazi titan to shuffle, I took him out and decided I'd re-assess based on if I ever lost a game by not having it in, and I haven't yet in probably around 50+ games.

The new card Deflecting Swat is interesting. A good Niv-turn protection and a free Misdirection.

Oh yeah, its going straight in for trickbind in my list. Just insane, even redirects Gilded Drake and can change all targets of Fire Covenant

Yeah, what a surprise this was. 2 cards to slot in. Its going to be considerably harder to get rid of Niv once he's out with these. Unsure what to take out for this at this point, I'll have to think on it

What about drawing your deck with NMP and then playing lab maniac, Jace, or thassas oracle.

Just for a backup, I don’t really understand how pinging can win the game.

In max power games life totals have often been very chipped away by swinging from dorks or partners to get Tymna draws and lifegain isn't a viable option for cedh. Usually having 70+ cards in the deck is enough. However there are a few options if your opponents aren't able to be killed by those pings.

Because there are already good options available, Oracle/Jace/Labman are wasted slots. You already should have won the game with the cards that exist in the deck. Those cards are mostly dead cards if you aren't comboing off. Some people opt for other options like Winds of Change, Scroll Rack, and Eldrazi Titan, or Timetwister which can help you deal more damage. Winds of Change in particular is only 1 mana, more useable than Oracle/Jace/Labman, and will double the amount of damage you can do.

Oh so you go through charity and ping with glint horn. Thanks for the tips. I am just getting into edh as a new format, and I am definitely looking into this deck.

I mean i's your choice, but I dont know any 2or mroe-colored cEDH deck which is/should running as much basic lands as Niv does... It's really difficult to cast Niv Mizzest fast and because of that, I choosed to slow all my enemys down with: Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon, Back to Basics, Cursed Totem and Trinisphere, because those cards are fitting in no better deck...

New Cards I can recommend:
