@Cicjose

That is a very real threat to this deck and simultaneously a great addition to it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I love Feldon as a commander but I really think your missing a couple fun things.

Magus of the Wheel is really good for card draw, and you can bring it back at any time.

Sundial of the Infinite Why? You get to keep your Feldon tokens. Combo this with any value creature with ETB effect or even something like Loyal Apprentice and just rake in the value.

And also, while just one Feldon effect is great, why not Rings of Brighthearth and Illusionist's Bracers ? Cant go wrong with the late game of tapping Feldon and making three tokens of three creatures instead of just one.

Woah, those are really cool ideas! I actually considered Illusionist's Bracers, but at the time I misunderstood what a mana ability was. What would you suggest that I remove to add those in?

Swapped out Kozilek, the Great Distortion and Oblivion Sower for Illusionist's Bracers and Sundial of the Infinite, since if I'm not casting kozilek and sower then they're essentially just big dudes and I think I have enough of those in this deck. Additionally I swapped out Fateful Showdown for Magus of the Wheel since in this deck the latter is just a cheaper, infinitely castable version of the former.

You cannot run Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip. It has color identity black on the other side which you do not have access to. Unfortunately Withengar Unbound is not a token, but a card making it illegal to run in the deck.

@cmsrDPM

I checked the commander rules and it said that the only deciding factors for a card's color identity are the mana sybols used in the card's casting cost and rules text (with the exception of lands). Is there something I'm missing?

Yes, flip cards are special exceptions and have a ton of rules that only apply to them. Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip is considered colorless AND black when it comes to deck building. While in game if you tutored for a black spell you would not be able to find it: the game is aware of the other side. The game considers Withengar Unbound to be a nontoken black demon (you can check gatherer, in the description the card is black).

This is not your fault: multicolor flip cards are a sticky point for EDH since there isn't a rule just telling you it is both colors (or just black in your case). I went back to the original mechanics explanation and they state this but don't mention why it is important.

A long time ago I wanted to play Civilized Scholar  Flip in an Esper deck and ran into the same issue. I hope I helped clear up some confusion.

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying! In that case I'll swap out Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip with Loyal Apprentice for some early game presence and sacrifice synergy.

Removed Sundial of the Infinite, since it doesn't synergize with Feldon of the Third Path the way I thought it did. I added in Chain Reaction since I need more board clears.

Sundial of the Infinite works as you thought. Feldon creates a delayed trigger on the creature. As the active player moves to the end step, the ability triggers. If you have multiple Feldon-reanimated creatures from that turn, they all go onto the stack at once. You then activate Sundial, ending the turn and exiling the ability. They will never try and sacrifice themselves again, as it only checks the first end step after they come in. Works with Unearth and such as well.

October 12, 2018 6:43 p.m.

So, if I understand this correctly, the effect would work like this: I trigger Feldon of the Third Path's ability. At the beginning of the next end step, the delayed trigger activates. When the trigger activates but before it resolves I activate Sundial of the Infinite's ability, exiling those triggers from the stack before they can resolve. Those triggers are exiled permanently, since they did in fact trigger. Is that correct?

October 13, 2018 3:12 a.m.

ThoAlmighty says... #13

Correct. Since Feldon says "next end step" it will only ever check once throughout the lifetime of the token.

October 13, 2018 3:23 p.m.

Awesome! When I was learning about that interaction, I found out about another one that's equally good: Strionic Resonator is effectively '2 mana: destroy target permanent', as long as I'm using Feldon's ability. Even if I haven't discarded anything good and am thus not using Feldon, It still synergizes with all of the creatures with 'enters the battlefield' triggers, as well as Staff of Nin, Aetherworks Marvel, Gonti's Aether Heart, Lightning Runner, Deathrender etc.

Rings of Brighthearth also lets you double up on Feldon reanimates, but the Resonator doesn't let you add the sacrifice clause to your opponent's things because the ability does not target anything.

October 14, 2018 2:13 p.m.

Ah ok, I see. I'm still keeping it in there for ETB triggers, since there are a lot of them in here. I actually looked at Rings of Brighthearth, and decided to put in Illusionist's Bracers instead.

if you want to play around Sundial of the Infinite even more, Sneak Attack and Flameshadow Conjuring can be pretty insane. play your blightsteel for 2 mana and keep.

October 17, 2018 4:28 a.m.

Ooo, Sneak Attack would make a great addition! It could be an alternate win con if I don't get any good discards, which is a problem I have encountered. Thanks! I'd add Flameshadow Conjuring as well, but in this deck I'm not playing many large creatures directly, rather I'm creating tokens of them.

October 17, 2018 5:17 p.m.

Shyachi33 says... #19

yeah, but Flameshadow Conjuring your kikijiki, will really increase your game speed. and to be fair if you start cheating your cards in with Sneak Attack, flameshadow will see more play. you DO have 13 creatures with cmc 6+.

Alternatively, if you're also looking for a decent discard engine: Slate of Ancestry

Have you considered Goblin Welder? It also works to disrupt your opponent's artifacts.

October 29, 2018 6:31 a.m.

Oooo, I did not see Goblin Welder! That solves 3 problems that this deck has with one card: (1), I cannot very easily get noncreature artifacts back from the graveyard, (2) I generally need to speed this deck up and get good stuff out earlier, and (3) I have very little removal for my opponents' artifacts. Thanks!

Shyachi33 says... #22

Vandalblast red's Cyclonic rift. and Goblin Cratermaker kills artifacts, BUT can also kill eldrazi's, Karn, and Ugin. great removal for red overall.

as far as artifact recursions go: Junk Diver, Myr Retriever, and Workshop Assistant. because they activate on death, they work really nicely with Feldon, since they get sac'd at the end of turn, letting you bring artifacts back to hand.

if you feel your deck is slow, and you wanna speed up, you can go 1 of 2 ways, draw power, and ramp, which red lacks. or slow everyone else down. you aren't running a lot of instants, or instant speed things, so you might want to look into, playing around with Blood Moon, and Magus of the Moon, if your play group is okay with it, Ruination, and you might want to play War's Toll and Mana Web to slow down, or prevent blue control or green aggression.

You could seriously consider running Assault Suit. It makes it so the equipped creature can't be sacrificed, even by your own effects.

Other utility cards you could consider Trash for Treasure, Scrap Mastery, and Blasphemous Act.

Other fatties you should think about Ancient Stone Idol, Metalwork Colossus, Inferno Titan, Steel Hellkite, and Scuttling Doom Engine.

Side note, Sundering Titan is banned in Commander. It is considered far too oppressive to multicolored decks.

November 11, 2018 12:24 a.m.

Why would I want protection from sacrificing, other than for All Is Dust? It's pretty advantageous to sac the tokens I make with Feldon through Ashnod's Altar, Krark-Clan Ironworks etc, so I couldn't even use it as a stat boost.

I'll swap out Chain Reaction for Blasphemous Act

I personally prefer Goblin Welder's reduced cost and ability to be replayed with Feldon over Trash for Treasure's speed. I can see a lot of situations where Scrap Mastery would be a dead card in my hand, although it would make a nice sideboard counter for board clears.

I considered Metalwork Colossus, Inferno Titan and Steel Hellkite. I decided that the foremost didn't do enough as a big graveyard body to be useful, and I don't really have enough mana generally to make use of the latter two. I also had Scuttling Doom Engine in this deck for a while, but I decided that I have enough aggro and need more board control.

Ancient Stone Idol would make a great addition but I can't decide what to swap it out for, any suggestions?

p.s. oh shoot you're right he's banned I will escort him off the premises

Protection from sacrifice means you don't have to sacrifice your token at the end of the turn. Sure 2 mana is 2 mana, but why would you care when you can just keep printing huge threats? It isn't like Assault suit will stop you from using your Altar since all you have to do is not equip the token.

As for what you could take out, well Belbe's Portal is fairly weak. You run a lot of different creature types in this deck so the amount of value you can get out of this is limited. It has a high up front cost and it isn't like it is free to activate, so the thing you're dropping needs to be at least 4+ mana to be worth it. If you really want this type of effect, Quicksilver Amulet just seems better.

Eternity Vessel is also on the weak side. 6 mana is just too much of an investment for a pure lifegain card and there are too many ways around this. Commander Damage and infinite combos being just some of them.

Pithing Needle is a good card but a bit too narrow. Even if you can lock down something important to an opponent's strategy and for whatever reason it is never removed, then it was just a 1 for 1, sort of. Since if it were a creature they'd still have a body and if it were a land they can still add mana.
