Maybeboard

Nicol Bolas, the God of Dragons, has gathered his dragon underling army and is ready for a fight. This deck is built around the synergy of dragons in order to join the attack. It is meant to annoy your opponents with spells to take control of the board, while also keeping up the attack with dragons.

This is a casual deck that I'm trying to make as competitive (and annoying) as possible. This is not intended to be a cEDH deck however, as this would be far too slow to play in that environment.

I've included all versions of Nicol Bolas and nearly all the cards related to him to keep on theme. I do want to try to stay on theme with some things, but I still think there is room for improvement without going too much off theme. If anyone has any advice on this deck, feel free to chip in.

This deck is built around Nicol Bolas so these are the highlights of the deck!

Nicol Bolas, the Ravager  : A creature at first, but his true power comes once you flip him to his planeswalker form. All four abilities are highly effective plays.

Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God: The newest and potentially the most broken in this deck if you have other versions of Bolas out! His ability to copy any of the other abilities is hard to beat.

Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh: The +2 is disgusting in this format. A lot of high CMC cards being run and has the chance to provide you with quite a boost. The final ability is likely to win you the game.

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker: The worst of the bunch, and would be removed if it wasn't on theme. The abilities are decent, but in a multiplayer format, he's just not powerful enough to do a whole lot to the entire board.

Nicol Bolas, the Deceiver: Better than "Planeswalker" Bolas above since it does impact each opponent on the two abilities that target players, but I probably wouldn't include if this wasn't on theme.

Sarkhan the Masterless: Ok... he's not Nicol Bolas, but he did work for him once! He's just so perfect for the dragon theme that it's hard not to include him. Having a few dragons out and him really makes the opponent question their attacks on me or my planeswalkers.

Narset, Parter of Veils: Also not a Bolas planeswalker, but too much value with this card and major annoyances as this format tends to have people drawing more than one card a turn.

Nicol Bolas is the god of dragons and he's brought his dragon army to demolish the opponent. Some of the key dragons in this deck are discussed here.

Dragonmaster Outcast: Not a dragon, but a great dragon card! This is commander and a casual format, so having more than six lands is easy to do. This is basically a free 5/5 flyer every turn if it stays on the board.

Scourge of Valkas: Free damage every time a dragon comes into play, and that damages stacks for each dragon in play! Makes it a lot easier to control the board when you can pop off creatures when you dragons come into play.

Hellkite Tyrant: With all the artifacts that are played in commander, this one is easy to include. It's got flying and trample! So it's pretty easy to get through with this and just wreck someones board. And the alternate win condition is actually possible!

Kokusho, the Evening Star: The extra life gain on this in commander is insane. Easily the best dragon from this block.

Lathliss, Dragon Queen: With a dragon theme, this is a must include. Any non token dragon that comes into play nets you a free dragon. Easily one of the best dragons in the deck.

Silumgar, the Drifting Death: Again, this dragon theme just makes this card disgusting. You could be popping off numerous creatures every turn just by simply attacking with your army of dragons.

Steel Hellkite: Just all around great removal in this format.

Balefire Dragon: This card just speaks for itself. It is absolutely brutal when it gets through with damage.

Utvara Hellkite: One of the most broken dragons ever printed. Simply attacking with any dragon nets you another 6/6 flyer! Yes, please!

Where the deck looks to take control of the board. There is definitely some work to be had here to improve the functionality of the deck.

Removal-

Black Sun's Zenith: Overall a great removal spell in commander, removes creatures with indestructible and shuffles back into your library.

Cut: Decent single target removal, but the real prize is in Ribbons where you can drain all your opponents at once.

Damnation: A staple for mass removal. Can't build a black deck without this.

Crux of Fate: Mass removal for all non dragon creatures. Seems to work perfectly! Very few dragons are run in commander. (Also a Bolas card)

Cyclonic Rift: Just a stupid card in commander. Shocked this still hasn't been banned. Until it does, it's a must include in any deck that runs blue.

Starstorm: There is plenty of mana ramp in this deck to cast the costly dragons, so this should be a highly effective board wipe.

Bolas Cards-

Deliver Unto Evil: Chances are you'll have a Bolas planeswalker out, so this seems to be a great value card, and if not, you still get two cards of your choice back.

Dark Intimations: Good card in multiplayer and it gets the bonus for us playing with Bolas planeswalkers.

Hour of Devastation: Can do a pretty decent job of wiping the board.

Cruel Ultimatum: The best Ultimatum and one that consistently frustrates your opponent.

Torment of Hailfire: In my playgroup, a high casting of this card usually has my opponents scoop. More than once I've had people ask to read this card again, multiple times. This card is brutal. I'll just whip out my 20 sided die and just count down the rotation around the group.

Others-

Demonic Tutor/Vampiric Tutor: Must includes in any commander deck that is running black.

Exsanguinate: The absolute best drain life spell printed. And just bonkers in commander.

Beacon of Unrest: Get back one of your dragons, or maybe some creature you killed with one of your removal spells. Or maybe even an artifact. And then it also shuffles into your library to potentially cast again. You can't go wrong with this spell.

Vandalblast: Great artifact removal in a format where artifacts run rampant. Nuff said.

All of these improve the functionality of the deck. There could be better options out there though.

Dragon Tempest: A must include in any dragon deck. Simply too powerful.

Leyline of Anticipation: Flashing in your spells seems pretty good in this deck!

Painful Quandary: If this isn't removed right away, most opponents have a hard time overcoming this card.

Phyrexian Arena: Additional card draw. Definitely needed to keep up with the opponent.

Propaganda: Opponents are really limited in what they can attack with when this is out.

Rhystic Study: More card draw. Keep it coming!

Search for Azcanta  : To help filter through the deck and later on find additional cards each turn.

Stolen Strategy: Extra choices to try and disrupt the board.

The Eldest Reborn: Getting back a creature or a planeswalker is pretty important. The first two modes are good for multiplayer.

I've included some of the standard ramp artifacts to the deck as well as cards that help enable the theme. I'm sure there is room for improvement in this area.

Ramp-

Arcane Signet: One of the best commander mana ramp cards to be printed. Stupid Brawl.

Chromatic Lantern: Must include in a multicolor deck in my opinion. How is this thing not worth more?

Commander's Sphere: Pretty good ramp and when it's no longer needed can sac to draw a card.

Dimir Signet/Izzet Signet/Rakdos Signet: Staple cards in commander. Gotta have if you run the colors.

Dragon's Hoard: This is a multi-color dragon deck. This perfect for the deck and can really lead to some additional card advantage.

Gem of Becoming: A weak ramp card, but quite a lot of value. Could see this being replaced.

Mind Stone: A really common card in commander, but this probably could be replaced with better ramp.

Sol Ring: An auto include in any commander deck. It speaks for itself.

Talisman of Creativity/Talisman of Dominance/Talisman of Indulgence: Good ramp cards in this deck as there is a need for a lot of colorless mana.

Others-

Belbe's Portal: Great to stick those expensive dragons into play. The opponent has to remove this or things will get ugly.

Quicksilver Amulet: Another way to try and get dragons into play quicker.

Thaumatic Compass  : Some might consider this ramp, but I really am just trying to flip this. Could see this being replaced.

Urza's Incubator: Make those dragons cheaper!

Vedalken Orrery: Again with the Flash, I think it's a great thing to have in this deck.

I won't break down the lands as this is a pretty standard set of lands for the color. I eventually want to get a Scalding Tarn, but I'm waiting on another round of reprints as the price is just too high right now and having it isn't going to make any significant impact on the deck.

I do run most of the lands that can remove non basic lands as another layer of annoyance.
