For Seton can tap into a treasure trove;

A relentless assault of the organic machine.

When you hear the word Nemophilist, and how it's definied;

As one who is fond of the forest, and appreciates the vines.

'Tis merely human interpretation, for no man ever could,

Truly understand what it means to be a Haunter of the Wood.


Here's a pet project I've been working on while other EDH lists have come and gone.

I started playing EDH with the Preconstructed Freyalise deck from Commander 2014. Tribal Elves seemed to strike a chord with me, and I tested Ezuri as a secondary General. Digging through the lists of Mono-green commanders I stumbled upon Seton, Krosan Protector. Being a fan of the Odyssey cycle, and the lore of Seton, Jeska, Chainer, Kamahl and Braids that are depicted in the Trilogy surrounding the block, it become quite clear to me that this would be the general.

Sifting through the endless supply of decklists our community has at our disposal, I was able to piece together a deck that truly feels like the wrath of a forest, and all its inhabitants.

Seton's ability to make can be accessed at instant speed, which immediately puts it above Ezuri and a tribal Elf build. Incporating Druids, Elf Druids and Elves into the mix can drastically accelerate this deck so that we generate infinite mana swiftly. This is done primarily through the equipments Umbral Mantle and Sword of the Paruns, and a creature like Karametra's Acolyte. Essentially, we need the creature to tap for more than the cost to activate the untap ability of either equipment, so that we can net mana. Entwining Tooth and Nail for Ezuri, Renegade Leader or Kamahl, Fist of Krosa act as our infinite mana outlets. Another possible outlet is to Grab Walking Ballista with an Entwined Tooth and Nail, shooting the table for lethal.

As a secondary strategy, Infect is incorporated both thematically with Glistener Elf or as an all out wincon with Triumph of the Hordes, especially with Craterhoof Behemoth. Pistus Strike is a janky removal for any decks built around fliers, but punishes the controller with a poison counter.

Green doesn't have much in the way of strong removal that other colours have, so we have to make use of the best. Beast Within, Lignify, Song of the Dryads, Naturalize, and Krosan Grip are the good at artifact and enchantment removal for any combo pieces, and flat out permanent destruction or manipulation any threats. Natural Selection tends to be forgotten, but it's the closest thing to Ponder Green has, not to mention it disrupts someone else. They Vamp Tutor, and we shuffle that right back? Yes please.

A dumb fun combo: Argothian Elder + Maze of Ith = Infinite Mana.

You do this as follows:- Assuming you have a forest in play, before attacking float a forest- Attack with the Elder, and use the Maze to untap it- Tap the Elder to untap your forest, and the Maze- Repeat ad infinitum

The trick is that the Maze does not remove the Elder from combat, and can therefore be repeated as many times as possible. The problem is this can only be done during combat, so we need to think of a way to utilize this mana at instant speed.

How about something like Helix Pinnacle? :3

Slaughter Pact? Typo maybe? The black mana symbol gives it a color identity in EDH even if the cost is zero.

I would change Natural State with Nature's Claim, as the latter has much broader scope, and most of the time the 4 health doesn't matter for overrun decks

EDHTest hey! Wow, those were both supposed to be in the main build I think I had about 110 cards before shaving cards down I must have accidentally kept Unravel the Aether in over Nature's Claim.

Would love some more Tooth and Nail or Natural Order recommendations! I thought of Khalni Hydra for that beautiful devotion, but I don't think it's worth it all that much.

I think it's unforgivable to not include Paradox Engine and Gilt-Leaf Archdruid in this deck of all places ;)

Krosan Grip over either Naturalize or Natural State. I know it costs a bit more, but that split second has saved me from infinite combos more times than I can count.

You need Sylvan Library and Mind's Eye for more card advantage, I think.

Your land count is RIDICULOUSLY low. I know your commander produces mana, and that you're playing lots of mana dorks, but I'm nervous about your ability to even cast them. At the very least, you will have difficulty rebuilding from a board wipe. For that reason, Heroic Intervention seems like a must here.

You have most of the good anti-blue pieces here (Hall of Gemstone, etc) but you could get great value out of Winter Orb, since you have enough mana dorks to compensate. Also, Carpet of Flowers is an oft-forgotten card that usually pulls its weight, and sometimes wins single-handed.

Oracle of Mul Daya seems very important here. It can help find those rare lands. Also, Steely Resolve can protect your druids from spot removal.

I really wish Conspiracy was in your colors...

And the big target you're missing for Natural Order is Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger.

I'll definitely consider Krosan Grip over Natural State. It's honestly one of the many "why aren't these in here?" Cards I see I'm missing.

I wanted Gilt-Leaf Archdruid so bad because it's RIDICULOUSLY good in this, sadly my LGS was out of it, of all cards. So Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury was the 5cmc slot replacement until then.

I thought of Carpet of Flowers, but my meta has no one with islands -_-

Heroic Intervention was definitely something that was on my radar...until I forgot to pick it up. Thank you for reminding me, btw.

As for the land-count, I was surprised myself, and yet the last few games with my metagroup usually had me ahead of the game with crazy consistent openers that either had my dropping 3 land to Burgeoning before my T2, or iterations of the Moxen, Dorks and a couple land to help jumpstart everything. I did round the count off to 30 just now with the addition of Deserted Temple to untap Gaea's Cradle.

Casey4321 hey! As mentioned before, my decks reflect my paper builds and sadly my LGS didn't have one in stock. Freyalise is in at the moment. Unless I can find a way to have them both and keep the curve the same.

I do know mono green fairly well actually. This looks like a blast to play. The first thing that I notice is that you do not have the best form of card draw in your color scheme Regal Force. I also think Staff of Domination would go well here. Unlike Daedalus19876 I applaud you for your wonderful land count :-) 32 feels perfect for a druid ball deck but I think you should heed his advice and go all in on Paradox Engine and nonland based ramp. Land based ramp is very meh in my opinion especially in this kind of deck.

This deck also could benefit from the following cards: Yisan, the Wanderer Bard, Chord of Calling, Weird Harvest and Birthing Pod. As I have said I am not huge on land based ramp but that new ramp spell for 3 that brings a bunch of lands into play for each tapped creature seems insane here.

Oath of nissa seems like it doesnt do much. Burgeoning is worse than exploration and neither is great given your setup. Birchlore rangers is unneded since your commander does it better. I would also drop one or more of your many win conditions. Card draw makes them far less essential since you will see more of your deck. Where is your Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx Karametra's Acolyte. I would think given your commander these cards would be autoincludes. Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip seems to be a better outlet than genesis hydra imo

Ok oath of Nissa will be cut, as will Birchlore and Genesis.

I had Burgeoning in because we do a lot of MP, and I love those T1 leads that eventually give you 4 forests by T2. Thing is though it's really only good for that one specific moment otherwise it's dead.

Nykthos....OH wow.. right that was one of the cards I wanted in but didn't have so I threw a random Misty in and was supposed to remind myself. Karametra's always been in though.
