Nekusar, the Wheeling Paradox

Commander / EDH*

Wargles

Maybeboard

Deck Challenge: Incorporate Braid of Fire , Herald of Leshrac , Karplusan Minotaur as core parts of the deck

This deck is all about upkeeps, wheeling, gambling, and free stuff.

Upkeep theme: Most of the cards have effects at upkeep that are beneficial for you and can be mostly detrimental to your opponent. Some of the deck gets counters at upkeep that net you free stuff, like Braid of Fire , As Foretold , Herald of Leshrac , Aether Vial . A core part of the upkeep theme is Paradox Haze , which can be copied via Copy Enchantment , Estrid's Invocation , and Clever Impersonator . By increasing the amount of upkeeps, you increase the amount of counters on these cards. Some cards, like Mind Unbound will increase card draw, leading you to draw more cards that synergize with this theme, or even wincons.

Wheeling: Several cards in this deck wheel, which causes your opponents to discard cards and draw cards. Drawing cards leads to Nekusar dealing damage to them, as well as Underworld Dreams . Discarding cards leads to damage via Liliana's Caress . The "Dealing" section includes the cards that benefit you from discarding and aiding card draw that don't explicitly wheel. Waste Not is a huge threat utilizing this theme.

Gambling: One of the wincons is Chance Encounter . Cards that cause coinflips such as Karplusan Minotaur aid this. Other synergistic cards would include Contagion Clasp and Inexorable Tide . Admittedly this theme is weaker although there are a few cards in the maybe board that have to do with gambling.

Free stuff: Several cards net free stuff and are also part of the upkeep theme like As Foretold . Herald of Leshrac can be cast using one of these cards and also nets free lands per upkeep and gains counters. Braid of Fire ends up being a good card with the multiple upkeeps if any of the cards that let you cast creatures and non-land cards with flash are in play like Leylines of Anticipation since you can flash cards during your upkeep(s) using BoF's mana.

Herald of Leshoc can be a huge threat in this deck if you have multiple upkeeps or proliferate his age counters. Multiple upkeeps would cause a factorial-like effect (i.e Herald steals 1 land first upkeep, 2 lands second upkeep, 3 lands third upkeep etc.) to occur within a single turn This deck allows you to have a maximum of 4 additional upkeeps if all copy cards copy Paradox Haze

There is also a zombie subtheme that benefits from multiple upkeeps and capitalizes on Lich Lord of Uncx and The Scarab God 's abilities to do damage based on the number of zombies. Cards like Waste Not and Endless Ranks of the Dead support this theme.

Wincons:

- Chance Encounter

-Wheeling everyone to death with Nekusar

-Shambling Horde: Accumulating enough zombies so that LLU or Scarab God can kill the rest of the players. Failing that, slapping them with the horde.

-Decking yourself either naturally or with Enter the Infinite while Laboratory Maniac is in play.

-Using Herald of Leshoc to basically steal everyone's lands and smack them while they cant cast anything

Weaknesses of the deck

-There is pretty much no removal or counter-spells. This is somewhat intentional as I wanted this deck to be very aggressive.

-Low land count. I think this might be fine because of the ample amount of 3-drops and card draw that this deck generates.
