For the past while, I've mainly just made decks that were fun to play (and sometimes won games). But now I want to settle down and make a good old merciless control deck.

So i took this baby out for a spin tonight at a semi-competitive store consisting of about 24 players. I was down 1 Jace, Architect of Thought as it hadn't come in the mail on schedule. I made up for this by running an additional Azorius Charm in its place. The matchups went something like this:

Round 1: Boros Aggro: 2-0

He got me down to about 10 life in the first game with a mixture of my ownThoughtseizes, shock lands and his Boros Elite. Eventually i got up enough mana to rev up for 5 which got me my obzedat, another Sphinx's Revelation and creature removal, thus ending game 1. Game 2 was a little choppier, he got me down to 3 life before i could get out elspeth, which made soldier babies to be fed to his 2-1 turn 3-2 clerics made by heliod and his spear. This allowed me time to find a rev, rurn off this devotion, stockpile tokens, -7 and swing for 18 in the sky.

Round 2: BUG homebrew: 2-1

Interesting one this, utilizing reaper of the wilds, opportunity, kiora and horizon chimera to whittle me down. He conceded game 1 for the sake of time and sideboards. Game 2 i kept his hand down with thoughtseize and duress to keep him from playing anything. Somehow he got out horizon chimera and i was left without a response, reaper of the wilds and scooze ensued, no answers were drawn. Game 3 left us both in topdeck mode, me with 2 removal spells and 2 counters. Board was clear, eventually i drew a sphinx's rev, which he Notion Thief'd from me. Obby came onto the field a short time, until he was sac'd by Far / Away. Elspeth came in and it was all over.

Round 3: my friend's simic something-or-other: 2-1

We were just messing around games 1 and 2, hero's downfalling elvish mystics and Plasm Captureing thoughtseizes. Game 3 was weird though, i was down to 10 from skylasher and shock lands, and he was gaining 3 life a turn off Bow of Nylea. Total board stall, full topdeck mode, no revs, no kioras, nothing until elspeth. After she came out a judge started counting turns on my friend's turn. It was about 8 to 53 life. Magical elspeth, her tokens and her ult won me the game with the help of sphinx's revelation and elixir to put me exactly at 21, when he was at 20 to close out the game.

Round 4: mono-green devotion: 2-1

Don't you just love detention sphering your opponent's gods, weapons and Garruks from them? My opponent certainly didn't. Obby comes out turn 7 and ends the game. Game 2 left me with no responses to anything my opponent did, my starting hand was a thoughtseize, d-sphere and a grip of lands, And lands for the next 5 turns... Game 3 was a bit of a shut-out, he would play something, i would make sure it didn't happen, if it was a sylvan primordial i would counter it, if it was anything else it got the doom blade or d-sphere. Elspeth enters, death by tokens ensues.

Overall: 4-0, 8th place, opened a jace, now there will be 3 of them.
