This is my attempt at making a competetive off-meta Approach deck.

After playing this deck a few times at my LGS, the real blaring weakness that couldnt be ignored was how slow it was. Red/White just wasnt cutting it. It was slow to start, had a decent midgame, but struggled against other decks endgames (i.e. U/B Pirates, God Pharoah's Gift, anything Grixis...).

To try to fix some of the flaws, I decided to splash a 3rd color. Blue was out of the question because, while ultimately the best choice for added control and mana fixing, it defeated the purpose of the build which was to make a competitive Approach deck that didnt adhere to the conventions of the meta.

That leaves me with two options: Black or Green. With Black I have access to early removal like Fatal Push or Unlicensed Disintegration, and later Vraska, Relic Seeker and Vraska's Contempt. That gives me better options against aggro decks like Ramanap Red (still not something i want to see though) or Mardu Vehicles (still not great but doable).

I chose to splash green first. Adding in Authority of the Consuls and Attune with Aether gives me much needed early play: slowing the game with Authority or setting up consistent land drops with Attune. If i actually manage to shuffle well, I hardly miss a land drop now; Of course, there's no cure for getting poor shuffling.

The one thing I'm considering changing is Hour of Promise. Its a little lackluster when playing no deserts. Though it is nice to have when I have Approach of the Second Sun in hand and i still need the 2 extra land to play it. I think I'm going to take them out though and add in Harnessed Lightning as a way to use excess energy.
