Welcome to Narset's Wheat Mill where we drive people so delirious that cards literally fall right out of their library!

I fear that the upcoming standard will be based around black-based control decks i.e. decks with alot of creature based removal backed by powerful planeswalkers such as Sorin, Grim Nemesis or Chandra, Flamecaller etc. So what's the best way to combat this you ask? Well just don't play creatures of course!

The main goal of this deck is to mill your opponent as quickly as possible. Time is your enemy and your life total is your clock.

Lets quickly take a look at some cards:

Startled Awake  +Talent of the Telepath: This deck moves away from the Sphinx's Tutelage mill decks we've seen. Startled Awake   is just a powerhouse milling thirteen and while we might not use it's transform ability all that often its still really good. Talent of the Telepath might mill 6 less but you get to do some fun stuff with it. Its so satisfying to pull the one removal spell that you need, from your opponents library no less! Did I mention is mills for seven.

Narset Transcendent: She is what makes this deck somewhat competitive. She's cheap which is what we want, comes down at a high loyalty meaning that she can survive a couple of hits, is inconspicuous and her +1 is card advantage (when it works :P). Her second ability is where she really shines in this deck. Being able to rebound your mill spells pushes this deck across the border. For example, Startled Awake   mills for 13 but with rebound it mills for 26 that plus the 7+ cards that they draw before the fact means that you essentially milled half of their deck! With Narset Transcendent you double the milling power of the deck! Also its pretty easy to get her to her ultimate if you want to stop any deck that's based on non-creature spells.

Sphinx's Tutelage: This deck doesn't need Narset Transcendent to win though, our other mill spells make sure of that. Sphinx's Tutelage is a good example of the steady mill that we need.

Manic Scribe: Again really good with delirium as a steady mill source, even without delirium he mill for three which may be all what you need. A blocker when you need it as well.

Vessel of Paramnesia: Enables delirium, triggers prowess, fuels delve ... but seriously it mills three and draws card which is good for Sphinx's Tutelage.

Other Spells:

Declaration in Stone + Immolating Glare: Our removal package is actually quite strong. They are both two mana which is good for the curve. Declaration in Stone takes care of everything and then some. Investigate isn't even drawback here since we want cards out of their library. Immolating Glare is also good cause we really only care about attacking creatures for the most part (unless you are a particular angel by the name of Sigarda, Heron's Grace). Like I said, your life total is your countdown clock and you must slow down its progress whenever possible.

Thing in the Ice  : Hey, why not add another win condition, sure it attracts all the removal in the world but if it sticks around flipping it isn't all that difficult. It blocks well too. The only difficult thing is whether your opponent will be milled or beaten down by the TITI first. Use Reflector Mage as a budget option.

Sideboard:

Encircling Fissure: You know you have those times when you are playing a mill deck and your just need one more turn or need to mill one more card. Encircling Fissure is basically a time walk for this deck as it saves you an extra turn (at least an extra upkeep) to get those last couple of cards. Great for aggressive matchups as well.
