Added Draw power —Sept. 19, 2012

Went added a couple more Think Twice to the deck. Added a couple cards to the maybeboard and we'll see how it goes there. Still not convinced in the Unsummon vs. Silent Departure argument and would prefer to have the flashback of silent departure to the instant speed of unsummon.

Silent Departure makes no sense here???? you're running snapcaster to get flashback why not run Unsummon

This needs some Pike action. With 15 sorceries and 11 instants, that 26 spells to fuel a Pike and Delver.

Needs more lands or more draw... with delver better designed for early damage and doing it often i think you'd be better off just not running him here at all... you don't have a lot of ways to protect him. If you want to keep to delver i'd put in stuff like Duress to empty the opponent's hand of removal. You need a lot of cantripping. And with that golgari instant coming out (that's obviously meant for delver decks) maybe side in Redirect or something seeing as it can't be countered

Alright to answer the questions.

First Unsummon vs. Silent Departure . The only thing that unsummon has over silent departure is instant vs. sorcery which is a big deal and something to consider. However they cost the same amount, if I want to recast them from my graveyard with snapcaster I can do it for the same cost. If I don't have a snapcaster mage I can cast the silent departure but I can't cast unsummon. Certainly the instant vs. sorcery is a consideration, but the utility of silent departure makes it better imo.

Second Olivia Voldaren : She's really good, but I really don't want to add creatures to the deck as it'll cut down on my delver's abilities and talrand's casting abilities. I'll put her in the maybe board and playtest some more.

Third card:Runechanter's Pike - its a great card and may see a place in the deck. I'm running a u/b delver that uses swords mainly and it does quite well. I may revamp and make it into this and the pike's may see play in it. Again though I just need to make sure that I have the right removal and the right amount of control. Talrand typically does a really good job of winning the game or making it impossible for my opponent to do so.

Finally the land issue and draw issue. I agree that I need more cantripping. Unfortunately there are few of those available in the post RTR standard. Many of which are actually pretty bad. I'm also not quite sure how much protection you think I need for delver. He's not my main win con like in many traditional delver decks. If they waste their removal on him, then talrand will have a flock of drakes and win soon after. I also have Izzet Charm in this deck to take care of noncreature spells that may target my guys. There is a lot of removal in this deck which makes it easy to take care of possible threats while building up my own creature base through talrand. Also since I don't have anything over 4 mana in the deck and I have avg. cmc of less than 2 I think the lands are fine for now.

Having said all that I think will look to add more draw and maybe a 4th izzet charm. I appreciate all the feedback and will take it into consideration. Please don't forget to +1 if you like it.

I'm not too sure what to replace, but Olivia Voldaren and Desecration Demon are possibly the best creatures for grixis currently. While Delver of Secrets  Flip gives decent early game, he doesn't seem too impressive in this deck, as grixis tends to prefer stalling. Snapcaster is good in here, and I can see how Talrand works, but the others give some powerful removal. If you do play the demon, just side it out vs tokens. My personal inclination is you could use some more instant speed removal. Max out the tragic slips and at least sideboard some Tribute to Hunger . Tribute gets past all the pains of hex proof. I want to shoot myself every time I see Index . It's such a bad replacement for ponder/preordain because it does nothing for you if the cards you look at all won't help (which does happen). Instead of Silent Departure you should use Cyclonic Rift for the enemy board wipe power. Beyond that it's hard to say more about RtR because it hasn't all been spoiled and control takes the longest to develop after a new set as it adapts slower than aggro. Aggro being mentioned, I'm curious how you would handle golgari with this deck. It doesn't seem well equipped to deal with undying and gy abuse.

2 Pillar of Flame does not count as being able to handle a lll the scavenge creatures and undying just fyi.

I think its a little early to declare golgari as a deck. Looking at the recent Starcitygames, there are no G/B decks. And from what I could tell there were only a few creatures that were actually being run that have undying namely Strangleroot Geist , Butcher Ghoul , card:Geralf's Messenger and technically Gravecrawler .

Index does many things for this deck. It sets up bonfire, it makes sure that delver flips and I'll know if I can use my own Thought Scour on myself. Its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Of course it isn't as good as Ponder , but we work with what we can.

I agree on the more instant removal. Maybe get rid of one or two dreadbore for tributes.

I'm sticking to my answer though with olivia though, she remains in the maybeboard. desecration demon, may see mainboard, but delver is just too good not to play. Any deck that runs blue with this many instants and sorceries, forces your opponent to deal with him quickly or be on the clock. I just can't see a good reason to take him out yet.

My suggestions, with only a quick glance:

Also, I'm not sure I'm fond of Tribute to Hunger in this deck... life gain just doesn't seem to fit well. And Tragic Slip is somewhat 'iffy' as well, as it usually goes hand-in-hand with 'sacrifice' abilities... though it may be okay with the amount of burn/removal in this deck.

I'm reconsidering my Fettergeist suggestion... it could be good, but one Talrand, Sky Summoner in play makes Fettergeist expensive and a fairly useless card.

I still think Fog Bank , and Guttersnipe are both better options for this deck than Delver of Secrets  Flip , and 24 land in this deck should be a minimum.
