Deck Updated... Again

Welcome to Restore Balance. This deck revolves around cascading into Restore Balance with one of our eight cascade spells and creating a way so that the effect is mostly one-sided in our favor. The rest of our deck sets up for the cascade and keeps us alive until we can balance.

NOTE: Because of the Cascade/Restore Balance mechanic, we can only run other spells with cmc 3 or greater.

One of those goals is making it so that our opponent takes more of a punch then we do from a resolved Restore Balance. We use borderposts to accomplish this goal. At first glance, they look unbelievably terrible. We find a way to make it work in this deck and the borderposts actually shine pretty well. They act as dual-colored mana rocks so that we don't need as many lands so that we make our opponent sacrifice more lands. They also have an additional cost by returning a basic land to our hand which lowers our land count on balance, and fills up our early turn plays.

Wincons

  • Greater Gargadon has a big body as 9/7 and can be suspended for a single red mana to get his time ticking down. This is not the main reason we use the gargadon however. This amazing body is attached to an ability that really helps our deck out. He lets us sacrifice creatures and lands (and artifacts occasionaly) so that we can have less stuff, so our opponent will have to sacrifice more stuff. For each thing we sacrifice, the less time the gargadon has until he hits the field!

  • Nahiri, the Harbinger allows us to cycle our deck for cascade spells or any other necessity, and it can deal with opposing problems. It also acts as a wincon through its ultimate combo with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. Very good in matchups where gargadon beats don't give us the W.

  • Ajani Vengeant is a strong planeswalker that can tap down opponent's threats or slow their tempo down by tapping anything necessary, and he can lightning helix away opposing creatures or the opponent's face. His ultimate acts as a one-sided balance just in case it is needed and we have no Balance able to be fired off.

  • Gideon of the Trials packs a punch and makes our clock quite fast if not answered. Early game threats like these are stronger in long-game decks like Balance. Gideon not only attacks well, with indestructible, but also fills in some holes that our deck needs help with in some matchups. Against Affinity, we can keep an Inkmoth from harming us before it's even animated, and in Death's Shadow, we can keep the shadow itself from taking a big chunk from our life total. There is also that emblem that slows the opponent's gameplan if Gideon can't be removed.

Spells

Demonic Dread and Violent Outburst as playsets round out the 8 cascade spells. Anger of the Gods, Firespout, Wrath of God for different levels of wrath effects. Blood Moon for punishing those non-borderpost manabases ;) slows down opponents and gives more time to stabilize and build up your board.
