My 5-0 Dragon's Maze Sealed Deck

Pre-release* Four Color

This is my 5-0 sealed deck from the pre-release. My guild was Selesnya- which I'd ironically chosen to keep me out of Dimir- and my allied guild was the Simic guild. My rounds went like this:Round 1: I played some Rakdos deck which never got a chance to play. Their mana was terrible and they blamed their pool, but I guess that happens with one-hundred-fifty people.Round 2: A RUG deck with an emphasis on simic cards. The first round they only got two lands in a fifteen land deck- again, people weren't understanding the importance of mana-fixing. The second round they put up more of a fight, but they went from 20 to less than zero in one swing with my field having Maze Abomination, Wild Beastmaster, Varolz, the Scar-Striped, and four bird tokens from Beck / Call, with Wild Beastmaster pumped by a Simic Charm and a fuse-casted Profit / Loss.Round 3: I played against the guy who ended up getting fourth, using an Orzhov/Boros deck. The first round he was mana screwed and the second round I got mana-flooded. The third round we both stabilized at seven life after he used a Basilica Screecher and Basilica Guards to extort the crap out of me. I ended up winning off the card and creature advantage of a Beck / Call drawn off of a Pilfered Plans and ended the game with the tokens in conjunction with a Jelenn Sphinx, which proved to be a work horse all night.Round 4: I played against a Boros/Azorius player. The first game, it was close until I got out Varolz, the Scar-Striped. He used his removal, an Avenging Arrow, an Angelic Edict, and a Furious Resistance to early, using the first on my Lavinia of the Tenth, which I used Simic Charm to stop, the Furious Resistance to kill Lavinia, in conjunction with a top-deck Boros Mastiff, and the Angelic Edict to get rid of my Maze Abomination. He got out Isperia, Supreme Judge, which I Selesnya Charm'd, and a Guardian of the Gateless which held off my Jelenn Sphinx, Maze Glider, and Beetleform Mage for quite some time. He used a Punish the Enemy on my Varolz, but I sacrificed the Beetleform Mage to regenerate it. I ended up scavenging Lavinia onto the Jelenn Sphinx and the Beetleform Mage onto the Maze Glider. He used a cancel on my Centaur Healer, but I just scavenged it onto my Maze Glider, at which point he conceded due to lack of removal for a 5/9 Jelenn Sphinx and a 8/10 Maze Glider. The second round ran much the same- I even simic charm'd my Lavinia to stop an avenging arrow again. But he didn't draw any non-red creatures, so Lavinia ended up killing him turn 9 after being played turn four off of a Selesnya Cluestone. After that round, the top 8 voted on whether to split or play, but two of them voted to play, so we had to sit through a half-hour deck check then play another round at six in the morning.Round 5: I was playing with a Rakdos/Gruul guy who'd been talking crap to me all night. His deck featured a Pyrewild Shaman, a Desecration Demon, a Blood Scrivener, two Feral Animists, two Gore-House Chainwalkers, a Rakdos Ragemutt, and a couple more mid-cost Rakdos cards. The first game we played to a stalled board state, at which point he began using the Blood Scrivener to draw two each turn. I dropped Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker and, due to his digging with the Blood Scrivener, proceeded to mill the entirety of his remaining deck with two hits. The second game, I got flooded and had no way to beat a Spawn of Rix Maadi, a Desecration Demon, and a Rakdos Ragemutt. The third game I was behind with a Jelenn Sphinx, a Lavinia, and a Varolz in play while he had three creatures in play. I proceeded to draw three turns of threats with six mana out, ending with a Jelenn Sphinx, a Maze Abomination, a Lavinia, a Varolz, a Haunter of Nightveil, a Beetleform Mage, and a Centaur Healer on field while he had a Ragemutt, a Spawn of Rix Maadi, a Feral Animist, and a Gruul War Chant. I played the Call side of Beck / Call, then finished him off in two turns of swinging for nine with the tokens and my Jelenn Sphinx. My conclusion? Beck / Call is the poor man's Sphinx's Revelation.
