What about it? It doesn't win as fast or as well.

wow! i didn't knew Maralen of the Mornsong can be used this quick.. lol.. but i agree with Sveniac, Zombie Infestation can be added, just in case Exsanguinate is countered.. +1

This is certainly an interesting combo, but how are you tutoring multiple times in one turn?

July 15, 2012 1:30 p.m.

ajacobik says... #5

You don't tutor more than once in a turn. What I listed is that turn's plays. If you're talking about how I draw my deck, read Ad Nauseam .

July 15, 2012 5:08 p.m.

Timekeeper says... #6

Sorry, I misread the turn 5 and thought you tutored for the all the combo pieces rather than just using ad nauseum.

ajacobik says... #7

It's cool. Lol.

deathbygiraffe says... #8

turn 5 you're playing Skirge Familiar and you hope it doesn't get killed... Turn 6 you'll have the mana to cast Ad Nauseam and discard everything.

Unless You add Lotus Petal , Mox Diamond , Sol Ring and Dark Ritual . That way, you can conjure up 5 mana out of nothing (you'll be drawing your entire deck anyway so you're gonna find them all)

By the way, this deck eerily resembles Back in Black

July 16, 2012 1:46 a.m.

ajacobik says... #10

You don't need the Skirge Familiar to win when you've got Sickening Dreams and Zombie Infestation.

I looked at that deck and it was posted months ago, so I'm certainly not going to offend anybody by posting a similar deck. Anyway, this deck was made on a bet that I couldn't build a winning commander deck for under $10. That kicks Lotus Petal, Mox Diamond, and Sol Ring out of the equation.

July 16, 2012 1:55 a.m.

Also, you really don't need to tutor the skirge. You'll find him anyway with Ad Nauseam ... so you'll lose 5 life, big whoop, you're winning the game the same turn...

If anyone sees the danger in maralen as general, they'll dispose of her quickly. And the only card you really need to win the game is Ad Nauseam , so tutor for that and that only.

You can also use card:Yawgmoth's Will instead of Zombie Infestation as a safety net against most counterspells. As I see it you will have 5 lands in play, Maralen and Skirge, you will have cast Ad Nauseam , and if you included the cards I mentioned 4 other cards in play/grave. Also you're gonna play Exsanguinate. That leaves 87 cards to discard for mana. A lethal Exsanguinate will mostly be about 34 life-loss (counting the damage maralen has already done), thats 36 card to discard. You'll have 51 cards left... More than enough to cast card:Yawgmoth's Will and discard another 33 cards to replay your Exsanguinate (you're gonna play Lotus Petal and Dark Ritual from your grave, so another 3 free mana)

ajacobik says... #12

We've established that Lotus Petal is not going in the deck. However, I do have a copy of Yawgmoth's Will that may just end up in the deck, and I think we'll make room for it and a Dark Ritual.

you could add vampiric or demonic tutor to the deck on the chance that someone kills your general before you get a chance to use her effect. plus they help out quickening the deck

I like the concept of the deck a lot, but Hinder , Spell Crumple , and Spin into Myth are giant threats. +1

True. That's why I only play this deck once in a blue moon so that people won't be overcautious of Maralen.

Gosh, theres a lot of cards that kill combos, but for 6 dolars what do you want, a golden gun?

Hahaha thank you. I knew I wasn't the only one who was thinking along those lines.

what do you do if they tutor for a lignify and turn Maralen into a 0/4 treefolk with no abilities

October 14, 2015 1:54 p.m.

ajacobik says... #24

I wonder why the fuck they're running Lignify in EDH.

lol it gets rid of a lot of problem creatures that's why.

Dorotheus says... #26

Just to make conversation Lignify is like a legit argument now. Lignify, Song of the Dryads, Darksteel Mutation, and now Imprisoned in the Moon

July 19, 2016 5:03 a.m.

ajacobik says... #27

Why not just remove her from the table? Lignify is not a good card in EDH.

Also, Sidisi pretty much obsolesced this deck, but hey, the strategy is now considered one of the most powerful ones in the format!

Well, you have to be careful about Maralen's side effect. It can turn pretty ugly for you if the opponent has means of stopping your combo in his deck.

In my blade deck, it would turn like this:

T3: Plains, Nevermore to Ad Nauseam

Quite an original combo thought, I suggest using Raven's Crime to avoid bad surprises.

Great deck idea, have you thought about Library of Leng, this may null the need for Spellbook, but one less swamp should provide an replacement spot for it, or better yet both cards in case one is removed.
