Sideboard

Artifact (1)

Welcome to the Muldrotha Toolbox 2.0. The original deck had a winning percentage of 85%. (I did a tally of 50 consecutive games, assisted by players at my LGS.) I'm attempting to modify it to make it faster and more efficient.

This is the updated deck using some of the newer sets...

The deck has some interesting Combos that make up the deck's Win Cons...(In no specific order)

  1. Mindslaver : Infinite Turn Theft. (Best used in 1v1 or against final opponent.)
  2. Emrakul, the Promised End + Lethal Vapors : Infinite Turn Theft (Best used with Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Tower.)
  3. Emrakul, the Promised End + Tree of Perdition : Win via damage. (Best if Tree of Perdition is used in response to NO BLOCKERS.)
  4. Emrakul, the Promised End + Corrupted Conscience : Win via Infect.
  5. Sidisi, Undead Vizier + Nexus of Fate : Infinite Turns. (Best used with Animate Dead/Necromancy for cheaper CMC.)
  6. Karn, the Great Creator + Mycosynth Lattice (Sideboard): Full board shutdown for opponents.

The deck loves to Synergize. I've tried to stuff as much play value into the deck without compromising the speed or use of the deck. Here are some of the Synergies I've implemented to make this as "Toolbox-y" as I can...

  • Spore Frog : A great way to have a Fog each round. It comes in handy for politics too, save a potential ally who can maybe deal with other players.
  • Necromancy + Gonti, Lord of Luxury : Casting Necromancy in response to an action on your turn (Combat step, casting another spell, etc.) allows you to have an ETB effect each turn while not only stealing value out of your opponent's decks (for 1 less CMC), but also NOT using up your "Creature" slot through Muldrotha, the Gravetide. (Best used with Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Tower so it doesn't matter when you cast, but also add Mana value.)
  • Psychic Spiral : Not only good to Mill opponents, but to also redo your own Graveyard if you don't like your options, at Instant speed.
  • Jester's Cap : Great to remove those pesky Eldrazi Titans getting in the way of you Milling your opponent. Or to snipe your opponent's Combo/Win Cons out of their deck.
  • Hope of Ghirapur : In my opinion, it's a better Turn 1 play than Sol Ring. Especially against a "Super-Friends" or a Narset, Enlightened Master deck.
  • Sakashima the Impostor : The ONLY "copy" card in the game that KEEPS its own Name, and it even has a bounce-cast ability. You can choose to have 2 Muldrotha, the Gravetide . Or after stealing/copying you opponent's Legendary with Control Magic, Metamorphic Alteration, etc. You can have a second one. I mean...who doesn't want 2 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite ?
  • Spark Double : Similar to ~6~. However, it can copy Planeswalkers for double Loyalty ability use, and if copying Muldrotha, the Gravetide or another Legend Creature, it loses it's "Legendary" sub-type making cards like Phyrexian Metamorph and Clever Impersonator easier to use.
  • Field of Ruin + Sire of Stagnation : The more players, the more value. (i.e. more opponents = more targets, everyone searches, as it's not a "you may", Sire of Stagnation triggers per opponent, replay Field of Ruin next Turn, Wash/Rinse/Repeat)
  • Lethal Vapors : It's just value in this deck. Your ETBs will still trigger, and if an opponent destroys it and skips a Turn. You can keep replaying it on your next Turn.
  • Coercive Portal : Basically it's a double-value card. Usually your opponents allow you to Draw for several Turns until someone gets too big of a board, then re-cast it ASAP. This deck doesn't mind too much if the board is wiped.
  • Command Beacon : If Muldrotha, the Gravetide is somehow removed from the field. Use Command Beacon to ignore Commander Tax. Recast your Commander from hand, then replay Command Beacon from your Graveyard.
  • Barrin, Master Wizard : Not only a good Sacrifice outlet for recursion, but also an amazing instant speed control card. Sacrifice to bounce attackers, creatures that negatively effect the deck, or even value cards opponents play.
  • Necromancy + Platinum Angel : This little combination is primarily used against Mill. If the deck is Milled 100%, then during your Upkeep, cast Necromancy on Platinum Angel from your graveyard, go to draw and NOT lose.
  • Snow-Covered Island / Snow-Covered Swamp / Snow-Covered Forest : This was originally a preemptive to be used against any Snow Decks prier to Modern Horizons.
  • Aura Thief : It steals control of ALL enchantments. That's just crazy, especially with the ability to recur it each Turn. With Necromancy, cast at Instant speed, it allows a quick trigger whenever needed (On my Turns of course)
  • Oath of Druids : For most decks, not a card easily Utilized. But for Muldrotha, the Gravetide, its nothing but Gold. Its great for Self-Mill, or to get another creature out. It adds a lot of Value when copied via Clever Impersonator.
  • Constant Mists : A great Fog spell with a perfect Buyback in a Graveyard Recursion deck.
  • Metamorphic Alteration : I found out recently that this could be used to copy an opponent's strong creature, or change an opponent's Commander into a copy of a useless creature.

And lastly...the MAYBEBOARD is my shopping list :p

Suggestions are welcome and since you made it this far...LIKE the deck?
