So here's my take on a modestly budgeted G/B -1/-1 Counter deck. We've got the obvious players like Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons and Nest of Scarabs, as those are what the deck revolves around. We also have a few more solid beaters as well: Crocodile of the Crossing, Ammit Eternal, Exemplar of Strength, and Plague Belcher all bring the pain in a variety of ways. "Coincidentally," they also synergize particularly well with Hapats and the Nest. For random deck swag, we've got Supernatural Stamina as a way to protect our creatures and also re-trigger Hapatra or Nest. This card alone has often netted me 5+ bodies depending on my board state. And what do I do with those five bodies? Well, I can always token swarm, but perhaps even better is using them to sac to Westvale Abbey to get our beloved and profane prince Ormendahl, who often wins the game on the spot.
Blossoming Defense rounds out our protection section, though I often go back and forth between it and Hapatra's Mark. Defense gives a better pump in most cases (only the Exemplar of Strength gets a better pump, and most folks aren't going to waste removal on him). Obelisk Spider does a little bit of everything, triggering Hapats and the Nest, blocking flyers, and tossing in some life drain. Lastly we've got Festering Mummy. Full disclosure, I don't think it's going to last much longer in the deck, as I mainly only ever use it to chump block, dump counters onto (really useful curving into Exemplar), and so on. He's a useful fella, but I'm interested in trying out Driven / Despair, just to see if it helps.
