Monowhite Devotion (Modern)

Modern GWU (Bant)

Sideboard

My first modern deck was a variant of GoatTribal's Banefire Goats. I fell in love with the explosive wins that the deck could pull of with Springjack Shepherd , Mirror Entity , and Westvale Abbey  . However, the Goat focused build was too janky and inconsistent for modern. Later I returned to my mono-white dream when I found Craig Weseo'd Devotion deck. It added consistency and value with Path to Exile , Walking Ballista , Knight of the White Orchid , and Elspeth, Sun's Champion . Combining these two builds with a few cards from Dominaria, History of Benalia and Benalish Marshal , I created a relatively consistent and explosive deck.

Craig Wescoe's Monowhite Devotion:

Knight of the White Orchid : A solid 2/2 first strike with knight subtype allowing it to synergize History, and adds to devotion. It will usually fetch a land due to Paths and the Borderposts.

Grand Abolisher : A 2/2 that adds two devotion and protects against opponents counterspells and instant speed removal. As a fairly uncommon card, many opponents will forget to remove it on their turn allowing your explosive plays to slip through.

Selfless Spirit : A 2/1 flyer which can be sac'd to protect your board from wipes and adds one devotion. It synergizes well with the Avacyns in the sideboard as it can flip her without killing your tokens.

Walking Ballista : An absolute powerhouse of a card. Although it adds no devotion, It can act as a removal spell, aggro threat, mana-sink, and massive burn. It synergizes well with the many anthem effects in the deck that allow it to stay on the board even after expending all of its counters.

Benalish Marshal : A 3/3 knight that adds three devotion and anthems all of your creatures. It is incredibly powerful particularly in conjunction with the deck's token generators including Springjack, History, and Elspeth.

Mirror Entity : An explosive powerhouse. Although Mirror Entity adds only 1 devotion and comes in as a 1/1, It can immediately be activated to make all of your creatures into base x/x. This effect is particularly powerful when your board is filled with tokens and additional anthem effects.

Springjack Shepherd : One the deck's devotion payoffs. Springjack can flood the board with goat tokens, and therefore synergizes well with our anthems and Mirror Entity.

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite : `

Elspeth, Sun's Champion :

History of Benalia :
