MTG Deck Builder

MonoGreen Dungrove Funtimes

Description

My monogreen deck that I've been playing for a few weeks. I really like it but would love to fix my sideboard up.

That's my big concern. My sideboard. I am not a fan of Ground Seal and will be probably putting in Tormod's Crypt instead.

i'm also a little iffy on if i want swords in this deck or not. on one side, they are fantastic to use. on the other, i feel that there might be better uses for a somewhat 5-drop. thinking of a possible Garruk Relentless  Flip

i really want Silklash Spider to be good but until Vapor Snag is gone, it's really not worthwhile. i know there's still Unsummon but snag is just a better card.

any help would be grand!

#7 in tournament @ Arkham Asylum — July 27, 2012

I did pretty poorly compared to last week. Went 3-2 and got 7th.

Game 1: 2-0 his mana didn't happen right

Game 2: 2-0 mono white humans

Game 3: 1-2 got bonfired to death

Game 4: 2-1 pretty tough but pulled it out in the end

Game 5: 0-2 the mirror. couldn't get anything

Update for FNM — July 24, 2012

So I decided to change the deck up a bit and feel that it is much stronger than before. 3x Predator Ooze will make for a very devastating board state for my opponents. He was a champ in all my games that he hit the field. Just a guy that can sit there and block your biggest guy is fantastic.

I'm still a little iffy on the sideboard but I think that it should be decent for my meta. I don't know if 3x Garruk, Primal Hunter is what I want. I only have one Garruk Relentless  Flip but feel like it should be a two-two split on them.

I would like to have 1x Primeval Titan in here but i honestly don't know what to take out for a 6-drop, seeing that I'm capping my drops at 5.

I wound up winning FNM and going 5-0!!! About 35 people showed up.

I beat:

GW pod: 2-1

Mono-white humans: 2-1

Grixis control: 2-0

Naya Pod: 2-1

Mono blue wizards/delver: 2-1

I think your sideboard for the most part is pretty good for mono-green. I'd suggest, since you're iffy about the swords, to take out the two swords in the sideboard and put in Triumph of Ferocity for a draw engine. Most likely Wolfir Silverheart and Dungrove Elder will be the largest creatures on the field, so it should work for you when you play it.

Also, think about cutting out one of the Batterskull and the Wurmcoil Engine to make room for one of each of the Garruks. Garruk Relentless  Flip for removal, and Garruk, Primal Hunter for chump blockers and massive draw engine.

Hope this helps.

To echo dcarpntr, the Garruks are very good to have in the sideboard. Garruk, Primal Hunter is also really good against control decks, as he can help you recover after a boardwipe. A steadily increasing army of 3/3 Beasts is definitely better than a charred, empty battlefield!

I would recommend dropping Stingerfling Spider and Crushing Vines for Silklash Spider and Ratchet Bomb . They have similar functionality, but they exchange speed for a massive advantage over token decks. Your choices are a little better against Delver decks, though, so take what I'm suggesting with a grain of salt.

Have you considered Phyrexian Metamorph ? It's good to bring in against reanimator-style decks, since they usually employ a lot of terrifyingly difficult legends that you can outright copy-kill, or really, really solid creatures that you wouldn't mind having as well (any of the titans, usually). Also: extra swords!

Hope that helps!

Also also: I wasn't necessarily suggesting add more swords, just that Phyrexian Metamorph can pretend to be one sometimes. I think your deck might be just fine without them (the swords). Personal preference!

Sideboard, I'd suggest:

Surgical Extraction

Ulvenwald Tracker or Prey Upon

card:Hunter's Insight

Triumph of the Hordes

when it comes to the swords, i think i only played it once the entire FNM when i had them in hand. and when i did play it, i wish i didn't. i just feel something mainboard would be stronger than having 2 swords in there.

i did consider the metamorph but i only own one and really have no interest in getting another one any time soon.

both garruks are probably gonna go SB. i've been thinking a lot about using them. i have one Garruk Relentless  Flip and 3 Garruk, Primal Hunter s.

i think i'll take your opinions and look at to see how it looks when i play test this week. thanks! :D

Maybe even try out Mwonvuli Beast Tracker to search for Dungrove Elder s and even Primeval Titan s or an Acidic Slime . Even though card:Green Sun's Zenith is totally better, you should try it out.

In my experience, swords just slow an aggro deck down. I would replace them with Increasing Savagery ; nothing quite says ouch like a Predator Ooze hitting for 7 turn 3, and suddenly Birds of Paradise are the highest priority for them to get rid of XD.
