DISCLAIMER This is an attempt at a competitive deck I’ve been playing for about a year and I love drawing cards. When I saw Vilis I thought maybe theres something to this, so knowing he’s expensive I put all the fast mana i have, and while it may not be competitive its fast hilarious and powerful.

using the new commander from m20 my goal is to draw basically my entire deck even if it means going to very low life totals. the deck runs a few ways to heal to counter act the insane life loss it provides.

in case you didn't notice vilis is a big boi and costs a whopping 8. mono-black is pretty good at gaining mana but the deck really does like to have vilis out as soon as possible so i put just about every good mana rock that i could into the deck to try to make him a consistent turn 4/5. Sadly this deck has become quite expensive as a result but it can function with less rocks or less ideal rocks and still get you a good amount of ramp to get vilis out and start drawing.

probably the most unique card in the list is soul conduit, so once you run your own life total dry you can move on to the next health pool and do it again until you find what you need to combo off. this card is extremely funny. It catches everyone off-guard. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "What the hell?! That's a card!?" as I happily pay 12 mana to go from single digits to 40 health and continue to draw.

the deck runs platinum angel as a form of insurance so you hopefully don't die from drawing.

some of the key cards are ones that protect your engine(vilis) or recover from vilis dying. usually if you have a turn or two with vilis on the board you can find imp's mischief to try to redirect some removal, or you can find a reanimation for vilis if he does happen to die.

he combos extremely well with bolas's citadel being able to pay life to draw a ton of cards and play the top card of your library which may draw you more cards.

the main win cons are:

To get out all the mono black ramp cards that you can and torment/exsanguinate.

Exquisite blood and sanguine bond combo.

Psychosis crawler and draw yourself out with various effects(for example if you have blood celebrant and the highest life total you can draw with psychosis crawler out till you are the last one standing.)

also disclaimer if vilis is out dont try to kill someone with aetherflux or you will draw 50 cards usually killing you.
