- 4x Captain of the Watch
- 4x Champion of the Parish
- 4x Field Marshal
- 4x Precinct Captain
- 4x Preeminent Captain
Tweaked a couple things. Upped the Field Marshals to 4, switched out 4 plains for 4 Forbidding Watchtower, and tossed in a Staff of the Sun Magus for a little bit of life gain. Going to give it a spin at FNM, see how it does :)

Did ok with this deck at FNM, went 2-0, 2-1, and 1-2 (won 5, lost 3) getting me 3rd place. Biggest struggle seemed to be mana, I think if I can get the mana balanced a little better this deck will be even stronger. Think I might cut a few cards from a full set of 4 down to only 3, see if that helps. I'll post the results after next weeks FNM event.

I personally would swap Obelisk of Urd for Honor of the Pure, though it is a hard choice. The Convoke is good for Obelisk, but Honor can come down turn two if in your opening hand. Maybe go a 2-2 split?

Also, you have 70 cards mainboard. Definitely try to cut it down to 60 (hard, I know)

Denial048 Thanks for the tips. I ordered a playset of Honor of the Pure and a set of Champion of the Parish. I am thinking maybe sub out 2 of the Obelisk of Urd and 2 of the Dictate of Heliod for the 4 Honor of the Pure Should help out my speed while still boosting all of my soldiers and tokens. Not entirely sure what to drop to get me down to 60 though...I could probably lose one of my Elspeth, Sun's Champion, maybe drop Brimaz, King of Oreskos and Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit...possibly move some or all of the Day of Judgment to my sideboard, I could probably ditch the Staff of the Sun Magus as well.
I'll have to tweak it around some once the new cards come in, see what I can do with it.

Its always hard to decide what to cut, and I dont want to tell you what you should cut as it really is your deck, you ahould play it the way you want to play it

Got my new cards, moved a few things to the sideboard and put in the new cards. Only got to play 2 rounds with it, but it seems pretty solid right now.
Swapped out 2 Obelisk of Urd and 2 Dictate of Heliod for 4 Honor of the Pure, moved Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit and Brimaz, King of Oreskos 1 of the Elspeth, Sun's Champion, all 4 Day of Judgment and the Staff of the Sun Magus to the sideboard, bringing the deck down from 70 to 66...I still might drop a couple creatures down to 3 copies instead of 4, I'll decide once I get a little more play time in with it in its current state.

Are you sure about 4 Captain of the Watch? I know it's good, but it's a 6-drop that you're pretty much hoping to cheat with Preeminent Captain. Does it really work that well for you? I'd sub at least one in for Brimaz and try that. Maybe try a 2/2 split, since Captain is expensive to play but Brimaz is Legendary. Your call though. I like what I see. Really wish Swords to Plowshares was Modern legal, but that's probably never gonna happen. Can you imagine that coming back to Standard? Talk about rekt.

Captain of the Watch is expensive, but gives a ton of value for the cost...and if I can cheat him out early using Preeminent Captain it is virtually a guaranteed win. +1/+1 and vigilance to other soldiers, 3 soldier tokens, and a 3/3 body...he is the powerhouse of this deck.
Turn 1 Champion of the Parish
Turn 2 Precinct Captain
Turn 3 Preeminent Captain
That has you rocking a 4/4 Champion of the Parish, 3/3 Precinct Captain, 3/3 Preeminent Captain, 3/3 Captain of the Watch, and 6 or 7 2/2 Soldier tokens...all with Vigilance. Next turn you can make things even scarier by dropping either a Field Marshal or any of the artifacts or enchants which buff your entire force.
It doesn't always happen that way, but this deck has a pretty high success rate, even against decks that cost hundreds of dollars more to put together. If I run into any better cards, I am always open to swapping things out to improve the deck. So far I haven't found anything that would kick Captain of the Watch to the curb though.
Even if I have to wait to get him out late in the game, he can really turn the tide when he hits the board with 3 buddies...especially if I already have out a few buffs...imagine dropping him onto the battlefield when you already have +4/+4 and first strike to all your soldiers...you now get him and 3 5/5 creatures for the same cost.

Windbrisk Heights is almost better combo then Pre-Eminent Captain because it gives card adv, lets you sneak anything in (planeswalker included) and this deck should have no trouble attacking w/ 3+creatures. Some main board control would really help this deck. A copy of Hour of Reckoning can be handy, Celestial Flare, Path to Exile, Condemn, Disenchant, etc. I would take out a few anthem effects for some more control.

I had considered Coat of Arms but the price did not quite work for this deck since I was trying to make it on a budget. If I did a non-budget version of this deck it would be much more likely to make the cut. Thalia's Lieutenant is decent, but not all of my soldiers are human, and she basically does the same thing as Champion of the Parish. Enlistment Officer is not modern legal, otherwise he would be a great addition for card advantage.

I'm not sure about Champion of the Parish since he depends on Humans and tokens are Soldiers. Maybe replace him with Geist-Honored Monk if you want something more punchy?
January 10, 2017 3:37 a.m.
All the solider creatures in this deck but 1 are human, and the CotP is in there so I cam have an early game 1 drop creature which will grow from both my other summons, and all of my soldier buffing effects.

I like this deck, +1. If it were mine I'd cut the Dictate of Heliods and maybe 1 Captain of the Watch and throw in 3 Brave the Elements - such an awesome card for .

Ive been buikding one myself. Ivr found that you dont want anything that cost over 3 that you dont want to cheat out. Mana is slow in white. Lightning greaves is a must for the prreminent combo plus it protects him with shroud haste is a nice turn 3 use. Creature removal is a must. No swords to plowshare :(. Also been thinking of looking for creature revive because preeminent is always targeted right away.

I could be wrong but I built a similar deck with champion of the parish and realized that his wording says "whenever another human enters the battlefield" all of the cards generating tokens state "white soldier token" and do not specify human. So he really only gets stronger when you play your actual soldier creatures from our hand. Is that worth it? Or is there another 1 drop that might be better?
I was really hoping champion of P would get gargantuan with all of the token generation but I don't think that's the case.
October 3, 2017 11:09 a.m.
You are correct, the Champion of the Parish only grows when you bring other humans out, he was still the best 1 drop white soldier I could find though. (at least as of the time when I built this deck, I haven't kept up to see if anything newer and better has come out since)
October 3, 2017 5:39 p.m.
Hey Slime! I built a deck quite similar to yours but with a few differences and it's been working amazingly.
I did some research and Champion of the Parish is the best 1 drop I've found as well. He still beefs up quickly without the tokens because of the low mana curve and all soldier cards being human. I'm pleased with that.
I have 2 cards that I would highly recommend. I'm not knowlegable about what format you're playing or which sets are legal but here's what I threw in.
4x Abzan Falconers which give all creatures with +1+1 flying. If you have an Honor of the pure, field marshall or Cotw you will all have +1+1 and therefore flying.
2x Odric master tactician who chooses which creatures block this turn and how they block as long as he attacks with 3 or more creatures. This is another great card to sneak out with Preeminent. There have been games where I have enough damage to swing for fatal but my opponent has solid defense. I sneak Odric out, declare no blockers and swing freely for fatal.
One time I had 3 preeiminent captains in hand and cheated 2 of them out with the first one, followed by a Cotw and my abzan falconer was already on the field, they all came in tapped and attacking. I swung for 24 damage on turn 4 or 5 with flying and vigilance.
p.s. sorry I don't know how to link cards.
October 10, 2017 12:29 p.m.
Abzan Falconer Only gives flying to creatures with +1/+1 counters...which the only thing in my deck that gets/grants counters is the Champion of the Parish. It does not work for things that give +1/+1 with no counter.
Odric, Master Tactician is nice, if I run into any of him I may try to work a few in, or maybe sideboard a couple.
