Sideboard

Hey everyone,

UPDATE: I'm so far at 14-3 with this deck, its turning out to be really good :)

Thought I'd try something different, and make a modern humans/soldiers deck.

The main idea of the deck is to drop smaller creatures to build your team, and then buff them with eachother or enchantments.

Our main T1 plays are going to be Thraben Inspector, Elite Vanguard, Kytheon, Hero of Akros   and Champion of the Parish. Landing one of these on T1 is really important, as its getting pressure (Yeah ik its only 1-2 power) onto the board, but the main reason is that it allows us to start swinging early and get their life total to dwindle, as well as snowballing quickly with the addition of our other pump/buff cards.

Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Thalia, Heretic Cathar are both in the deck in order to increase the window we have to attack before they stabilize, but also to prevent them from playing faster than us, which is one of the ways that we lose. They're also both first strikers, and can be pumped with all of the pump creatures/enchantments in the deck.

Always Watching and Honor of the Pure are our enchantments that increase the value of playing our creatures, and make it far harder for our opponent to race us in terms of damage. It also turns off their blocks and forces damage through, by creating unfavourable blocking situation for our opponents. Field Marshal and Thalia's Lieutenant are our creature based pumps, in the form of first strike or +1/+1, doing the same as mentioned before.

Kytheon, Hero of Akros  , is one of our big value cards in the deck. As a 2/1 for 1, it’s pretty good, and being able to give itself indestructible is nice to protect it before it flips. Once it flips, it becomes Gideon, Battle-Forged. His +2 ability allows us to eliminate at least one of their creatures from blocking, because we get to choose who must attack Gideon, Battle-Forged. It also reduces the number of blockers they’ll have available when it comes to for our combat phase. His +1 isn’t as useful, but can prove important when facing unfavorable blocking situations (e.g. equal power and toughness between 2 creatures when defending your life total). His 0 is very powerful - with all the buffs in our decks, most often he ends up being a 6/6 first striker or better, which poses a massive threat to our opponents.

Preeminent Captain is in the deck because of the board development potential it provides, being able to play a soldier with land, and then another off Preeminent Captain. It's a good replacement for Aether Vial which can be awkward in this deck as a lot of the time. Builds our army very nicely :)

Precinct Captain If left unblocked things can easily get out of hand with all of the new tokens receiving numerous buffs. Most of the time landing combat damage on a player will give us a 3/3 token - kinda ridiculous.

Path to Exile - Self Explanatory

As for our choice of land, there are many cards that require double white, so I’ve decided to exclude Mutavault. Cavern of Souls is a must, and allows us to reliably land our soldiers.

The deck seems fairly week to board wipes, with the only defense against it being Brave the Elements, or having great enough toughness to swing out of range.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :)

Hope you like it :)
