Modern Control

Tanker12

Description

I've hand crafted this deck to savagely beat greedy metas. I come from a play group that now use tron and decks that often times have little to no basics. The deck is simple land some lock down spells, starve your opponent of resources, and just use Seismic Assault to beat them in the face with pain that can't be countered. It's stood up to a 1.7k goyf deck that had all the fixings and survived 2 lilli ultis. I don't usually make resilient borderline normal decks but i'm sick and tired of fetches and shocks i want my opponent to be scared for there lands while i just discard mine and smack their faces. I recently added 2 Life from the Loam as it ressuplies our hands with lands.

It was already mentioned but Crack the Earth is just to good. If you add Simian Spirit Guide u can turn a on the draw into an on the play deck by just exiling simian then cracking the earth he has to sac a permanent then you play your land + whatever. You traded 2 for 1 but since you were on the draw its like 1 for 1 plus you take 1 of his lands 95% of the times and this makes ppl really salty.

Boom//bust does make the dwellers kind of insane, but to really abuse boom//bust I think you need fetches for the boom half.

In addition, I would try:1) a number of Simian Spirit Guide to make your bridges better and really blow up lands as fast as possible2) a number of Beast Within to deal with problem permanents. In a pinch, it can even blow up a land, but when your opponent resolves a lili or nahiri, you don't have much counter play to that.3) and a number of Anger of the Gods esque cards to beat creature matchups where you don't draw your bridges

woops, didnt mean to post that last comment twice. Also, Crack the Earth is all right, but Im not a huge fan. If your opponent leads on a fetch, its effectively a dead card. In addition, I forgot to mention, blood moon is REALLY bad to draw multiples of, even if your opponent can answer it. Maybe take out a number and move them to the side board? Like 2 or 3 is usually good enough, and they can clog up your hand when you are trying to resolve bridge.

Boom/Bust really needs to be used with fetchlands in the deck. I know you don't like them, but in the words of Boromir "We could use the weapon of the enemy against him." Boom your own fetch and the opponent's land. Respond by activating the fetch. The spell will not be countered as it still has one legal target (opponents land) but you don't lose any of your own. So boom reads 1R "destroy target land". Best land destruction spell out there.

The fetches also get retrieved with life from the loam when there is nothing else for them to get, and help get that forest in play, allowing you to cut down a forest if you need to.

justtesting2002- just curious, how does Crack the Earth become a dead play if they lead on fetch. It isn't targeted, so if they fetch in response, they will have to sacrifice the land they find.

Why Shrapnel Blast when you only run 9 artifacts?

I would suggest that you splash white for Leonin Arbiter. It turns Ghost Quarter into a practical Strip Mine. Pretty much every other deck plays fetches and it makes them a lot worse.

Darksteel Citadel is a necessity with boom bust, since it turns it completely one-sided.
also fetchlands fill the same purpose, but i understand if its a budget thing.

i dig the feel of the deck, though.
its like mono-red land destruction with a twist that reminds me of the old extended burn deck that would sit behind ensnaring bridges once it cast all its shocks and bolts, and just slowly topdeck more shocks and bolts.

boom bust with a crucible out is a beautiful thing.
