Mono Green Stompy 2.0

Modern

Sideboard

So when I started off in modern I started playing my mono green stompy deck. It wasn't anything special and there were a lot of budget replacements that I now realize don't actually work anymore.

Creatures

  1. Experiment One. Best one drop in the deck. Can grow super big in the early game and also switches on Rhonas the Indomitable very easily.
  2. Dryad Militant. Main deck answer to storm and any Blue/x control deck.
  3. Strangleroot Geist. 2/1 with haste. 2 Devotion to green. Sign me up.
  4. Avatar of the Resolute. Fantastic body, 3/2 reach and trample for 2 green is nuts. Slows down affinity a bit too because the only thing that normally gets over it is Etched Champion.
  5. Dungrove Elder because he is that really big Hexproof body that can get out of control very quickly.
  6. Rhonas the Indomitable. Good mana sink in the late game and is almost always active by turn 4.
  7. Groundbreaker. It's Ball Lightning for green and provides 3 devotion to Aspect of Hydra and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.
  8. We are not playing Leatherback Baloth and Kalonian Tusker because they do not do anything on their own, they only look like an evolve trigger on our Experiment One.

Spells

  1. Rancor. It's insane value and sometimes your opponent just can't deal with it on a Dungrove Elder
  2. Aspect of Hydra adds so much damage to an already good boardstate and if it goes on an Experiment one with a Rancor then you are just snowballing that game.
  3. Blossoming Defense. We play this instead of Vines of Vastwood because it gives a +2/+2 buff and hexproof which is better than 1 mana shroud, 2 mana shroud +4/+4 (in my opinion).
  4. Collected Company. All of our creatures have CMC 3 or less so a CoCo on our opponents end step could make us get lethal on turn 5.

Lands

  1. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx because in the late game it produces a lot of mana to use with Rhonas the Indomitable.
  2. Forest. Needs no explanation really.

Sideboard

  1. Wilt-Leaf Liege. Great against 8-Rack, and any deck that makes us discard cards.
  2. Reclamation Sage to blow up artifacts and enchantments. It is also a CoCo target.
  3. Collected Company to fill out the playset.
  4. Creeping Corrosion because it destroys affinity and also helps out a lot against tron.
  5. Dungrove Elder to fill out the playset. Normally brought in against black or red, because they can't bolt it or push it.
  6. Spellskite to draw away removal spells and combos with Shapers' Sanctuary.
  7. Shapers' Sanctuary as a card draw engine with spellskite.
