The Return —June 7, 2019

Hey everyone! After a brief hiatus from Magic (and a slightly longer hiatus from this site), I've gotten back into the hobby. After noticing how many old comments were left down below, I figured I would do this quick update and clean up the old clutter.

You may notice in the recent changes that I've finally locked the decklist down where I want it, having added the Walking Archives in long ago but forgetting to update the decklist on the site. As a note, Walking Archive was the only non-Green color identity card I was willing to include in the deck, because it synergizes sooooo well with the deck's primary strategy of Defender Creatures + Card Draw/Mill. To be clear: I do NOT want to add any other non-Green cards to the deck, in order to keep the (technically) mono-Green theme a priority. Any other recommendations or ideas are welcome, of course.

As a final note, it was rather pleasant to come back to Tapped Out after such a long hiatus to find this deck still seeing a lot of love on the site. Does a 'brewer proud!

Why not throw in something like Fireball ? It's a simple alternate win condition, and axebane guardian can give you the red mana

@FlashDrive: Perhaps because the deck is called "Mono-Green Mill". :P Seriously though, it's not meant to be super competetive, just goofball and fun. First time I played this against some of my friends, all I told them was "I made a new green deck. Will you play me one so I can see how it does?". I saw some of the funniest confused looks on people's faces. Priceless. :) THAT'S why I built this deck.

And don't worry, it's a recommendation that comes up often. :)

You, sir, is a genius.

I really was feeling like to suggesting some cards, but see: first I thought of Trepanation Blade and Sword of Body and Mind but, woa, you only use defenders. Silly me.

I thought of Grindclock but it seems to be too slow, and Mindcrank woudn't help also. But, anyway, take my +1. It's a mean deck you've built out there, in a good way :)

Thanks sithris! If you like this one, you should check out my new U/B Modern Mill deck I made a little while ago: Gravedigger, When You Dig My Grave... That one is TRIBAL MILL. I know - I made mill a tribal thing! :D It's pretty sweet, I think you'll get a kick out of it too. :)

I like it. The only thing is: why is Sands of Delirium only a 2-of? If that is your main win-con, it should AT LEAST be a 3-of imho. You know in case they actually have artifact removal and stuff.

@RussischerZar: Sands of Delirium actually ISN'T my main win-con, the Decimator Web s are. They are technically a better mana investment, by milling 6 cards for 4 mana, and they offer two other win-cons all in one. A single Decimator Web puts my opponent on a 10 round clock, excluding all of the other forced draw and mill effects. Two of them put my opponent on a 5 turn clock. Three of them put the opponent on a 3-ish turn clock. It speeds up the game significantly. Plus if they have some kind of graveyard recursion, like Elixir of Immortality , then I win through loss of life or poison counters. If they have Melira, Sylvok Outcast then I win through mill or loss of life. And if they run lifegain they I win through mill or poison counters. :)

And if they do have artifact destruction, then it likely isn't more than 3x or 4x Naturalize , so they won't be able to handle all of the artifacts. And in game two, I sideboard in the Elixir of Immortality s that I have so my artifacts shuffle back into my library and I just draw into them all over again! :D

Hm. I would still put one more in as mana-sink. :)

I'm also curious how actually useful the Garruk is in here.

Garruk Wildspeaker is incredibly useful in this deck. For the most part I just use the +1 for a little extra mana, but being able to drop a few 3/3 chumps on the field is really handy. Plus just having a planeswalker on the field in general typically means the opponent will focus him down hard, which tends to leave me a turn or two of uninterrupted milling. Which can make a huge difference when playing mill. :) I really like where the deck is at right now, and it performs reliably the vast majority of the time.

What would you replace Garruk Wildspeaker with, since you have something else in mind?

Impressive deck! How about Helix Pinnacle ??

I am impressed with the simplicity and effectiveness of this mill deck. Might I suggest Sculpting Steel ?

You can copy your main win cons and run greater counts of them.

You are also lacking any kind of counterspells. If you want some nice colorless ones, then the best ones are Chalice of the Void and Jester's Scepter . I use these in my colorless artifact deck and I have some great control over my board.

If you want to speed up your mill game, you may want to think about putting in Grindclock in place of Decimator Web . Also, if you wanted to go a bit out of budget, you may also want to consider Sylvan Caryatid as it is a defender that also taps for any color of mana. With that and Axebane Guardian you could run a 1 or 2 of Mind Grind for an easy ramp win.

I suppose this defies the mono green concept, but maybe Intruder Alarm + Presence of Gond + Altar of the Brood

matbyrne says... #18

I don't think the infinite combo is really necessary, but Altar of the Brood turns your land ramp and defender swarm into more mill. I think it's a pretty good idea.

Have you thought about Archive Trap? It can be a good side choice because half of modern decks I've seen search their library at least once per round... Great deck +1 for you :)

And consider Firespout as a side option for flying weenies match-ups

Oh wait oops sorry didn't see the last part of description.

November 22, 2015 8:23 p.m.

Ok you might want to run Grafdigger's Cage for some graveyard hate

November 22, 2015 8:26 p.m.

I'm totally putting sands of delirium in eldrazi green quicksilver devotion deck as a win-con.

Karametra's Acolyte would be awesome in this.

Since the sideboard isn't full - Tormod's Crypt or Pithing Needle might be good.
