MONO BLUE IS BACK BABY! Gotta love Fate Reforged.
Lands:
Pretty basic for a mono blue deck here. Nothing too special to report here, except for the Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.
Creatures:
Frost Walker
is just what the deck needed! A two drop that can smash in for 4 on turn 3 is awesome.
Hypnotic Siren is a good solid 1/1 flier for a blue. If I can, using the bestowed cost would be pretty cool, but that would be pretty hard to do.
Master of Waves
is a standard in Mono blue strategies, making a ton of elementals to swing in for the win with!
Paragon of Gathering Mists gives all my guys a boost as well as helping creatures without flying get over their blockers.
Thassa, God of the Sea is another staple in blue strategies. A huge 5/5 beater with a scry at the beginning of our upkeep is really good, so she's easily a 4 of.
Triton Shorestalker is the best 1 drop we can get in this deck, as it can't be blocked by anything! This guy is really good for a common, and we intend to take full advantage of that!
Vaporkin
isn't the best card in this deck, but it is a 2/1 flier for 2 with only a slight drawback. Also, it gets +1/1 from
Master of Waves
!
Non-Creature:
Bident of Thassa gives us some awesome card draw, as well as two blue symbols for devotion. We probably won't use the second ability very often, but it's nice to have it.
Hall of Triumph
is a great way to buff our guys so we can have elementals hanging around without
Master of Waves
being there. And it's also fairly cheap.
Military Intelligence is some more solid card draw for early on in the game. Not the best, but it's a great toy to play with.
Cloudform
is absolutely fantastic in this deck. It ALMOST replaces Nightveil Specter, with a little upside of hexproof. And it can make our Thassa, God of the Sea even better or any other creature for that matter.
Reality Shift is what this deck needed. It is all the removal you need. It looks just like Rapid Hybridization as well, only the creature is worse.
Now on to the sideboard! This sideboard is still a work in progress, so feel free to suggest down in the comments!
Negate is a spell that I have very recently added after swapping out
Dissolve
. This deck doesn't really care about the opponent's creatures, only our own. This spell comes in against control decks with all their wrath effects and removals.
Fated Infatuation comes in against decks running a lot of removal. You can simply put a copy of your guy onto the battlefield in response to them targeting them.
Hour of Need
would come in against a monsters deck. If they have some huge green fatty, give them a 4/4 instead. Or you could always give your Hypnotic Siren an upgrade, or if you have enough mana you could do both! Sphinxes for everyone!
Monastery Siege is just fantastic. You Khans can be used in both control and aggro matches, although a turn off not contributing anything that can do damage to the board is pretty bad against aggro. The Dragons mode would be great against control or once again, decks with a lot of removal.
Quickling
is quite the spicy card. You can do some very degenerate things with a card that bounces creatures back to your hand. This is great against control (as long as it isn't countered). In response to their board wipe, you simply return your Thassa, God of the Sea to your hand if it's a creature, or you could get double value off your
Master of Waves
if you have something to buff the tokens so they don't die. Take that Jeskai Tokens!
Wall of Frost
is for aggro decks or decks running Goblin Rabblemaster. Mono Red is rampant at my LGS, so I wouldn't feel safe leaving home without
Wall of Frost
. It also blocks Siege Rhino LIKE A BOSS.
That's all the cards! Stay tuned and remember to give me some +1s, they really help!
