Mono Black Sacrifice Ramp Deck

I've had this deck for a while, so maybe there are better cards out there to complete this set. This is a casual deck that I play in my playgroup, if you get some time to setup it can get quite wicked.

It mostly revolves around Soldevi Adnate and abusing his saccing skills to get out high cost cards. It basically consists of three things you want to do:- get out a high cmc creature for lower cost- sacrifice it for the cmc to gain more mana- play something big

To the card choices:

Lands:

  • 20x Swamp: Every card is black or an artifact... so why not? :) Only 20 because we can produce mana through other means. Dross Golem likes these too for some reason...

Creatures:

  • 3x Deathgreeter: decent 1-drop which gives us some spare life while setting up the strategie, good with Promise of Power

  • 4x Soldevi Adnate : The reason the deck exists; he's the sac outlet to trigger abilities and get mana for the big guys

  • 3x Vault Skirge: a good 2-drop and a strong 1-drop with phyrexian mana, the lifeloss is compensated with lifelink. Can be cast for one to produce 2 mana and blocks flyers. (mana netgain: 0-1)

  • 1x Reassembling Skeleton: Put him in as a 1-off only to ensure that if he hits the field you can reuse him for saccing if your battelfield is low on critters, can be abused with Grave Pact to get rid of annoying enemies.

  • 3x Cathodion : A 3/3 artifact for 3 is ok own its own, but getting mana for its defeat only sweetens the deal! Played in round three this dude can be sacrificed for 6 mana to ensure something big will hit the field (mana netgain: +3)

  • 4x Dross Golem : Since we only play swamps he can hit the board as soon as round three for 2 mana, giving you a 3/2 Fear which could be a problem itself for some decks. Other than that he can be sacrificed to gain 5 Mana, either with Soldevi Adnate or with burnt offering for that extra mana you got open (netgain: ~ +3 Mana)

  • 4x Shriekmaw: This guy has the same stats as the golem and delievers a much needed removal source for the deck. The trick using him though is that you can evoke him, use the ability and sacrifice it afterwards before he wanders to the graveyard, giving you a Terror + 5 mana! (mana netgain. +3)

  • 4x Gleancrawler : And now the cream of the crop, this fellow can be cast easily if using one of our sac-creatures. 6/6 with trample is nothing to scoff at, and his ability tops it off: When played you get the creature you sacrificed it for back onto your hand, ensuring you to get card advantage while having him on the field. Now you can sacrifice all day long and still have your hand full with creatures. If you get out a second one after the first one was killed you can daisychain them to always have one on the field. Love this guy!

  • 1x Massacre Wurm: I had this dude at home so why not implement him? For 6 you get a 6/5 stapled with a potential finishing move vs. token decks and alike. If you want to reuse him just combine him with Gleancrawler and sacrifice to get him back to your hand.

Enchantments:

  • 2x gravepact: we sacrifice alot, we want our opponent to not have any creatures... sounds goo to me

  • 1x Shade's Form : I used to have more in the deck, but you never want to see more than one on your hand and it's more of a combat trick. Either you pump your creature to hit with lots of damage (we got enough mana), use it on a gleancrawler to keep him on the board, or you can even put it on an enemy creature to take it over... this card is better than it seems ;)

Artifacts:

  • 1x Culling Dais : An alternate Saccing method that is immune to creature removal and lets us dig deeper through the deck to get cards we need; not really our main strategy butcan help find important cards (and is pretty good with the skele). 1 should be enough.

Instants & Sorceries:

  • 2x Burnt Offering : It's Soldevi Adnate 5&6 to ensure we get some mana and in some cases can be helpful for only costing 1 mana

  • 3x Duress: It shows us what the opponent has on his hand and disrupts a bit against things that shouldn't hit the board; not being able to remove creatures is compensated by shriekmaw and grave pact

  • 1x Profane Command: Utility card that can come as a suprise, can be used as a finisher to drain opponent's life; you can get an important creature like adnate or Gleancrawler back from the graveyard; can be use as a removal, and lastly can give all fear which isn't the strongest move... but another option that may be useful.

  • 3x Promise of Power: The big brother of Night's Whisper, this card fills your hand full with cards at the cost of 5 life, which we can get back again by other means. The demon is also pretty good, even better if entwined to ensure it is a >5/5 flying beast which could also end the game The 9 mana needed for this aren't that hard to get if played right.

As I said in the beginning, there are probably some newer cards to upgrade the deck, but as I mostly look for budget builds as I only compete with my friends I am pretty happy how it is now :)
