Description

This is a deck I came up with a few days ago. I saw the card Contamination and thought about making a mono black Sidisi, Undead Vizier deck to make it stupidly good in, but decided that there weren't enough legacy decks using it.

Turn 1:

The best play would be a Thoughtseize to get an idea of what your opponent is going to do, however this would be if you were on the play.

Turn 2:

In the second turn you need to either play a Dark Confidant (if you don't have a bitterblossom) and if you do play a Bitterblossom. Or if you need to kill something with Fatal Push do that.

Turn 3:

This is where we need the lock to work, hopefully you have a Bitterblossom by this point so you have repeated sac fodder for Contamination, and use whatever ramp (Dark Ritual or Cabal Ritual) to play what you need to.

Turn 4: If the locks not in play find a way to play it for the love of god.

The Ideal play on turn 4 is a Phyrexian Obliterator, but an Desecration Demon would be good if you're losing. Use one of these two to start diminishing the life total of your enemy.

If they are running a very creature or Zoo based deck, you need to play a Damnation too even the playing field.

Now contamination may not seem like a lock, but most decks in legacy are 3-5 colored. This means that most of there decks would be completely useless when contamination is in play.

Updates

Removed it due to it more often then not, not doing enough to help the board. While it may help get out a Desecration Demon but Phyrexian Obliterator is a much better card and it requires all black mana.

I like the idea of this deck alot. I saw your post in the legacy deck help forum. would your win condition be through your creatures with Dark Confidant? The only thing i would recommend to you would be Drain Life. you could really hurt there health with Contamination This deck seems it would be very disruptive and i like it :D. +1

ooo that seems fun, I might replace Cabal Ritual with a few, and maybe take out a Sign in Blood or two;)

And the win condition is either Phyrexian Obliterator or Desecration Demon, if they can't kill them, they lose. And if they do not run black they lose anyway.

Quinnagin27 Its going to go under some tweaks (Like a few more creature producers so if I don't pull a Bitterblossom I don't lose) then after I feel its substantial Im going to feature cycle it to see if I can't get some traction going for it :D

Quinnagin27 I added a playset of Ophiomancers so that every upkeep I could get a new snake to sacrifice

Quinnagin27 says... #8

would you be able to sac the snake when you put it out at your upkeep tho?

Quinnagin27 Yes, it says "at the beginning" and Contamination says "during" its the same for Bitterblossom

Quinnagin27 For some additional consistencies I added 3 Diabolic Intents, now I think I just need to tinker around with the number of certain cards. Thats for tomorrow though, night friend

One concern your deck is unprepared to handle is artifacts, especially lotus petal and moxes, which would negate your lock with contamination. As they are heavily relied upon in Legacy, Id modify your sideboard to heavily weight removal via Thoughtseize, Inquisition and Extraction, and get rid of the overkill of Innocent Blood and Damnation, as those are too slow to answer threats like Griselbrand, Iona, Emrakul and Elesh Norn. If they hit the board, you lose...and youll see them a lot.

That is very true, I've never actually played Legacy so I def need some help, I'll make some adjustments to it

Toxic Deluge probably ought to be there somewhere. Perhaps instead of Sign in Blood.

Dash Hopes is a horrible card. It inspires visions of opponents dying to lifeloss and key pieces of combos being countered. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way; instead comboplayers happily drop 5 life on the turn where their combo goes of, and control decks happily dropping whichever card you countered, the pilot being happy that you just chose to trade 1-for-1. Could be exchanged for those 2 Thoughtseize in the sideboard.

You have a lot of relatively high cost cards, when considering Dark Confidant.

Maybe a couple of Mutavaults or Mishra's Factory could be good (dunno - but I've played pox in legacy, and they are amazingly great cards in that).

December 2, 2017 10:57 a.m.

what would I replace Dark Confidant with?

And I would agree with that, I've been cutting Dash Hopes back since I first made the deck last night because the more I thought about it the less I thought they did.

As for Mutavaults I'm not sure they'd benefit the deck, I need so many black mana sources, that I was hesitant to put in Wastelands and am still considering them having a place in the deck.

I could most likely replace Dash Hopes with a few Toxic Deluges

Like, at the end of the day this deck isn't doing anything powerful.

This looks like a cross between a black prison/stax deck, the gate and suicide black without any of the upsides of any of them? Shizo, Death's Storehouse isn't doing anything besides being a land you can have wasted. You aren't going big enough for Drain Life to be more than just a low quality fireball. And most of your threats line up poorly to the stuff you see now.

My suggestion would be to lean into one of those style more. For stax, I would be dropping stuff like Bob, demon, phyrexian, turning off all your opponents removal, relying on bitterblossom/contamination combined with a card like Black Vise so they can't play spells and are being burnt for 3 or so a turn.

For the gate, you basically go harder on the disruption, jitte, bob and play aggro control without ritual.

For suicide black, you want similar stuff to the gate but with ritual and psudo burn/rapid draw stuff.

December 3, 2017 7:45 a.m.

LeaPlath

So I understood like half of that, can you explain to someone who has no idea who bob is lol

Also Im not sure I entirely understand what you're saying, can you explain a bit further?

Dark Confidant = Bob

What you confused on, friendo?

December 3, 2017 9:31 a.m.

LeaPlath

Yeah I had a feeling that he was bob lol

And just how you want the deck to work exactly

December 3, 2017 9:54 a.m.

LeaPlath says... #22

So, basically.

Do you want to be an actual stax deck, denying mana and resources.

Do you want to be an aggro-control deck, denying hand resources and beating in.

Do you want to be a suicide black deck that goes "turn 1, big fuck off black creature off of rituals".

December 4, 2017 11:21 a.m.

LeaPlath

Stax deck, because thats how I play

December 4, 2017 11:33 a.m.

xyr0s says... #24

@LeaPlath Don't you mean "pox" instead of "stax"? As far as I can tell, this deck and stax only have Wastelands in common...

stax: http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=17345&d=307301&f=LE

Pox: http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=16098&d=299201&f=LE

Saw a stream not too long ago, where Duke Reid played a pox deck with Dark Confidant in it, and it looks pretty strong. But then there's the matter of pox decks using Liliana of the Veil a whole lot, and what that does to the price tag.
