Modern is the perfect Format to take advantage of all that black has to offer.

Most people don't expect to see a counterspell in a mono-black deck, but Dash Hopes accomplishes that in perfect black flavor.

there is a suite of removal options in Grasp of Darkness Go for the Throat and Mutilate (the poor man's damnation, which is better in MBC in my opinion.

With the forced sacrifice cards like Geth's Verdict , Gatekeeper of Malakir, and Abyssal Persecutor finds a home here as well.

Lashwrithe survives mutilate, and is another beatstick to close the game out.
